What's the deal with the voting system here?

A story of mine which was recently promoted by Dranoel has recieved several very positive feedbacks, along with some pretty decent ratings (thanks for that by the way, Litzens ;) .)

Anyway, a couple days ago I went into my control panel and found that the story had dropped even lower than before Dran had pitched it, with not a great deal more showing in the number of readers. Even if someone (or even two people for that matter) had 1 bombed me, the math just isn't working out in comparison with the high ratings I recieved in the comments.

This sound familiar to anyone?

Laurel makes sweeps of the stories and votes. The object is to remove troll bombs. The process is apparently fairly complicated. Sometimes non-troll votes are also removed.

As to the count of views, that updates slowly and it may be way behind.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for that bit of clarification, R. Richard.

All too familiar.

Tomorrow, when I'm sober and can string some thoughts together, I'll give it a look.

Sorry to cause a troll attack, Helene. :(

Let Laurel know and I'm sure she'll investigate it.

The only other thing to keep in mind is that people often only comment when they love a story or hate it passionately. So a story can have a couple glowing comments but a so-so score.
So yeah, probably a bit of trolling at work. Unfortunately I've learned that sometimes more exposure for a story means more 4 votes. That and stories that are very highly rated tend to average down a little over time, especially if it is near the top of a rating page. This can be trolling, but it also can just be more people reading it, saying "well that wasn't that great" and giving it a 4.

No need to apologize, Dranoel. I so appreciated your promotion more than words can say :) .

Normally I don't even concern myself with scores at all, but I suspected in this case that maybe it was more of a technical issue than a troll one due to the number pattern. That was the only reason I asked if anyone else had noticed anything odd lately.

Lil Elvis and James: Thanks also for your comments. :)
