Notification of a New Story

Am I right in assuming that if I follow an author I should receive notifications when new stories are posted by that author? I don't get any notifications and I wonder if I should.

Yes, you should.

Maybe you should check if the author you have followed has in fact released new content - you should get a notification on your Control Panel. You don't get notified by email, if that's what you're thinking.
