Nothing like last minute

This morning I was informed that there will be a party of sorts on my unit. I was asked what I would be bringing. There is nothing quite like a last minute request for something like this.

I thought about it during the day and hit upon an idea. I made out a list between caring for my patients.

On the way home tonight I stopped at the local grocery store and picked up two large packs of Chicken wings. When I arrived at home I got changed then started working. The wings were sectioned then seasoned with freshly pureed Garlic, Onion, a pinch of salt and some Black Pepper.

As I was seaoning the winglettes I was also heating the Oil in the Deep Fryer. Yep, these winglettes were carefully deep fired without a batter. (Naked in other words.) I tried one and they came out pretty good. Nice crispy skin and a halfway decent flavor. They are now sitting in the fridge in a large container.

As I told the Charge Nurse I better not hear any complaints about the wings. They knew about this party last week and didn't bother mentioning it to me until this morning. In other words they are lucky I'm bringing anything.

Any one else have something like this happen? Being told at the last minute that there was going to be a party and you're expected to bring something?

Constantly. I'm not a teacher, don't spend any time in the teachers' lounge and never get the "official" bulletins about anything. I have to rely on hanging out in the secretary's office (or talking to the kids in the know) to find out what's going on.

Not recently, but yes, I've had this happen. I usually bring something like potato chips or candy or soda when that happens, as a sort of protest that I wasn't informed sooner so I could actually prepare something.

I'm not as quick as you when it comes to party ideas. ;)
