TELL ME WHAT YOU LIKE AND HATE ABOUT THEM. How do you load software on a netbook?

I saw my first NetBook today. Looks like it duz as much as my 2001 PC boat-anchor. The NetBook reviews are kind. I mean, if games is all you do it likely sux; but it seems to pack the gear in most other respects. The toy keyboard scares me. I'm as rough on a keyboard as Rachmaninoff.

Netbook is a dumb name. makes it sounds as if it's somewhat diffeent from a notebook. It isn't.

It's a notebook. A small, lightweight, slow and low price notebook. But yeah, they're generally weak, so even browsing heavy websites with lots of flashy content cean get them to slow down. Although the latest models are begiining to get ok.

How do you load software on to it? I guess you referr to the fact that a netbook doesn't have a cd/dvd player. But neither does many notebooks. I haven't used a cd or dvd for my regular puter in seven years. But if you absolutely have to, you hook an external unit up via usb or pam up another computer's drive via network.

I read that they dont have CD/DVD players; so I was wondering how to load something like OFFICE or PHOTOSHOP. I'm not ready to buy just yet; in a year or so they should have WINDOWS 7 aboard.

Some of the newest already have Windows 7. But I wouldn't recommend them they're too expensicve and a bit sluggish.

I answered that part about the dc/dvd for loading Office.

But maybe I got too geek-speeky.

1. Use an external cd/dvd-player, like these

or

2. Connect the netbook to a local network. If there's another computer in that network that had a cd/dvd player, it can share that drive with the netbook.

My wife has a NetBook and loves it. I find the keyboard to be a bit small for me.

As for loading programs into it I have an external USB CD Drive that I hook up to the Netbook.

James,

My netbook performs like a laptop of maybe three years ago. It's a little slower, and the hard drive is small (160). The wireless card is also weak. However, it runs any program that I need, from desktop publishing to word processor. It's small, fits in my purse, and always available.

Battery life is seven hours, so I can take it to school and write notes. Then post the notes on line and have them available from my desktop at home. It's also a good online tool for networking with fellow classmates (sharing class notes and etc).

You must get used to the screen size, and smaller keyboard, but for $300.00 bucks, not a bad choice. Mine runs Windows XP. and I load programs via a separate optical drive.

Despite the netbooks shotcomings, I love mine.

My "netbook" (dumb name) is a welcome back-up and alternative to my laptop. It's small and light; easy to cart along - it fits in my regular schoolbag or tucks into my carry-on luggage.. It has a writeable dvd drive and 160Gigs of hard drive. Only 1 gig for operating, though, and that limits it. But i don't use it for heavy graphics; it does my photos and powerpoints and all my writing. The only nuisances are the small keyboard and screen, and the touchpad; I carry a wireless mouse to settle the latter issue.

Thanks again.

The specs are about like my 2001 PC, and thats what the reviews say. PHOTOSHOP and OFFICE are about all the add-ons I want.

I had a laptop at work and hated it.
