Not sure which category to post my story under...HELP!

Hi there,

So, I'll be posting my first submission tonight, but I'm not sure exactly which category it should go under.

It's called "Thirsty Old Men" and it's about a college-bound jock who gets tricked into a sticky scenario where his cum is treated as a hot commodity by a group of wealthy old men who believe they'll be more virile by drinking and collecting his cum.

Should I put it under "NonConsent/Reluctance" and tag is as 'gay' or put it under "Gay Male" and tag it as "nonconsent, reluctant, forced, etc..."

It's going to be a multi-chaptered story, but there's plenty of action in each chapter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-The Reluctant Knight

If it's got male-male sex, Gay Male trumps anything else.

Well, considering the options and information you're providing, I'd say you're in for a rough ride.

Anywhere you post it except GM -- including non-con -- you're going to get hate mail and low votes for MM of any kind.

I'm not sure how the GM crowd will react to a story with a non-con angle, but I suspect that the readership may very well react as many other categories do to non-con -- with hate mail and low votes.

A warning at the beginning in the GM category might help. Not sure how well the readership heeds those, but at least they couldn't say they were "fooled into reading it"

The same might apply if you put it in Novels and Novellas ( since you say it's going to be multi-part ) but that's generally a dead zone for readership, so you'd be trading a lesser chance of hate mail for a lot fewer readers.

Your story is going to be between a rock and a hard place on Lit. There's simply not very many options when posting a Gay Male or Bi Male story.

Thanks!

Ok, I'm going to put it in Gay Male. I've added a nice little disclaimer at the beginning as well. Thanks again!

The GM category isn't as slamming as that in my experience. I get zap votes myself, but others writing GM seem to be getting high marks (while I still usually lead off the "most popular author" list on the GM home page, which tells me the low votes are coming from what I post to the forum). And after the first couple of stories I never again got hate mail for posting GM (other than some gay bashing here on the forum--nothing in the story file comments or e-mails).

The only element I see that might give this story a problem if posted to GM is the age of the "old men." Really old doesn't seem to resonate in GM. I have a similiar one to this posted here and it's only rating 3.65. I haven't gotten any hate mail on it though.

And I wouldn't put any disclaimer on it. Most readers of GM don't need to be spoonfed about anything the author himself reveals he's squeamish about and it's likely just to set them off.

I'll have to defer to you there, then. There's only so much you can extrapolate from experience in other categories :D

First off, I'm not gay or male, but I do like to read the cat once in a while. I concur with SR. I don't think you need to put a disclaimer. I think reluctance is a common theme, actually, in GM. It allows a reader to cross a line in their fantasy life that they may not cross in real life - or maybe the opportunity doesn't present itself?

Anyway, good luck. :rose:

A note on nonconsent. Gay male nonconsent is quite a bit different from heterosexual nonconsent. It much more is part of the standard tease in GM literature (and real life) than in hetero, so it only has stigma for those who don't understand the GM patterns. For a male to let another male top him has more of an emotional barrier to it than for a female to let a male fuck her. That's just the way it is--mainly because of societal taboos ingrained in everyone.

Thus nonconset is much more part of the ritual in a GM seduction than in a hetero seduction. Fighting against it and being forced against his will--being physically dominated--is both a guilt suppressor and a turnon for a gay male--more so than it would be for a female. It's a standard foreplay form and doesn't inhibit the act or enjoyment once it gets going.

In hetero stories this form of setup is often used as a convenience and is part of the fantasy. In a GM story it's more standard to the reality of actual gay male foreplay.

We are conditioned that when a female says "no" to a male, it's supposed to mean "no" unless accompanied by other signals (many of which, unfortunately are interpreted differently by males and females).

When a gay man says "no" though--and stays around--it more often than not is part of the foreplay tease and means "yes." A gay man who really means "no" will get up and walk away, often leaving a bloodied nose behind. Nonconsent just isn't the same in these two situations.

The problem at Lit. and other erotica sites, though, is readers who dip into GM stories with the patterns of hetero stories in their minds and expecting to find the same taboo patterns. They aren't the same.

Agree with others. Gay male for certain. It's just one of those things. Non-con it may be, but Gay Male trumps all the other categories--non-con, mature, etc. Good luck with the story.
