Not incest, but a twisted "family" idea...

I have been toying with this idea for quite some time now, but no matter what I tried not much came to me.

The basic idea is this... There's a young couple about to get married. On the night of the rehearsal, there is a LOT of flirting going on between the cousin of the groom and the bride-to-be. The catch is, the cousin is a woman, but I don't want my readers to know that right away.

I need gender neutral names. But, not names like Andi/Andy. I need names that have the same spelling like Alex or Chris. Does anyone know of any GOOD gender neutral names that have the SAME spellings?

Or, any other ideas or twists? At this point, any idea is welcome. :)

I likeChris. More exotic might be Lyndsay ( except, since its usually a girl, the twist goes the wrong way). Or Pat, a la SNL. Or Al ( short for Allison ).

I have two girlfriends that have what could be considered male sounding names - Taylor and Randy.

ohhhhhhhh....Taylor is a good choice!

I know this one guy (acutally it is a character from a movie) who is called Ashley. I am not sure, but I always thought that Ashley is a female name ?

Another name could be Toni, short for Antony or Antonia.
Or Mel like Mel Gibson or Mel(anie) Griffith
Also: Stacy - I always thought that this is a female name, until I saw this one male racecar driver (Stacy Compton)

And just to add this: Some years ago, I read this book from Steven King "Tommyknockers". Maybe I missed something, or maybe Steven King also liked to confuse the people. Anyway: The name of the main character was "Rob". It took me quiet some time until I found out that "Rob" was short for Roberta.

But just to add this: This is one of this things about english language.
In german, we have 2 words for cousin. I mean we have "cousin" that is the male. But we also have "cousine" that is the female ...

We're getting some good ideas here, so far. Being a Lindsay myself, I know it's more commonly a femenine name. Same with Ashley, Leslie, Stacey, and Tracy. (I know not all of those were already listed here.)

What I need are names that make people assume it's a male and not a female. And, they need to share the same spelling. Where the name Tony/Toni has different spellings for each gender. Pat seems to cliche thanks to Saturday Night Live. I might stick with Alex, but I wanted to see if other people could come up with better names than I did. ;)

I've seen Ronni and Rawnie for a girl, but never Ronny. Same with Terry... I've only seen Terri. Never heard of Michael for a girl.

You maybe right about Ronny and Terry, but I believe the actress from "The Waltons" spell her name Michael

I think the reason Taylor appeals is cause once I had a crush on a girl named Taylor, but she was lesbian, so that didn't work out.

not exactly the same, but I think back in the 60s and 70s (and even today) some people give their kids strange names.

Like for example: Demi Moore has 3 daughters (with Bruce Willis). Their names are Rumer Willis (b. 1988), Larue Willis, Scout (1991) and Tallulah Belle Willis (1994).

So, maybe a total uncommon name ...

And what about Sam ? Short for Sammy or Samantha ...
