NOT Dumb and Dumber!!!

So proud of our children.

On Cartoon Network this evening they showed the movie Dumb and Dumber. We've never seen it personally but it does have Jim Carrey in it and we expected his typically goofy humor. Cartoon Network has been showing clips of it all week so our kids really wanted to see the movie. OK.

We prepared popcorn and such - aided their little party. Whatever. Didn't want to rain on their parade (even though I was dreading the entire event).

But they only lasted about 8 minutes into the show before they left the room. Last check before bedtime they were writing cartoons and adding dialogue on their respective computers (it's so cute when they run back and forth between their bedrooms to check on the progress of whatever site each other is exploring.)

AND - we didn't have to watch the movie either.

(YES!!!)

:D

I absolutely cannot stand that movie. Dumb and Dumber was the perfect title for it because it was really dumb.

You must have dropped them on their heads....

Well, they love to quote Monty Python's the Holy Grail verbatim.

What do you think?

The little bit I saw? I completely agree!

There are some Jim Carey moves I do like - Liar, Liar, for one.

But Dumb and Dumber? No. And they even made a friggin' sequel!

Interesting note: They started filming the restaurant scene not ten minutes after i finished eating a burger there.

Later that night the Shaggin Wagon was cruising the main street of the county seat - the largest town in that county, with a population of something like a few thousand people.

My husband likes them (of course). I run into the other room when he runs across them on tv. They try to play on the "so dumb it's funny" card, but it just doesn't work for me.

The van was the only funny thing about the whole movie.

The only scenes of any movies that I know of that were shot close to here was some of the water chase scenes in the second Fugitve movie.

It wasn't close to here, but -fairly- close to where i lived in high school. About a 45 minute drive there. Made frequently.

Yep, the lake where they did the water chase was about 45 minutes from here too. Of course, they've done stuff in Memphis, but that's a bit further away.

Smart kids. I was never a fan of Jim Carrey and that movie confirmed it. It was a rediculous waste of time and money and ranks second only to "Freddy Got Fingered" as the all time worst movie ever made.

I think you have two very intelligent children, with good taste. There is no comparison between Monty Python *bows down in awe*, and *spit* 'Dumb and Dumber'. Emminently stupid and vacuous film.

Just as a side note, one of the networks (can't remember which one, AARRGHHH) is having a marathon Monty Python showing, starting at 11.00 today, especially for April Fools' Day. Perfect.

From the time I was very small, "comedy" that insulted my intelligence never clicked as funny.

So dumb it's funnt just dosen't work with me. Jim Cary has a very good ability to do sight gags. Unfortuneatly, as far as I can see, the movie makers try to string together a sequence wehre he can preform them at the expense of any kind of plot.

Kudos on your kids having the horse sense to know there are better ways to kill two hours or so of your life :rose:

Must check it out!

We just bought Life of Brian. Hubby and I have seen it but we didn't own it and now our kids are seriously interested in the Python boys.

Proper education is so important, isn't it?

:rose:

Okay ... I'll confess. I did laugh once or twice. The dead bird did it.

*sigh*

I feel so ... dumb. I'll be going now.

We didn't get that far into the movie, I guess.

More slapstick would have kept our son's attention, I think. He's 7.

The Grail was fun to watch with our kids, though. Our son's nonstop giggling during the castle scene when Arthur is trying to recruit the French? Damn. We watched him instead of the movie, he was so funny.

I hope other 2nd graders understand his references to the movie.

:D

All children should be taught to appreciate art...

Holy Grail

Life of Brian

Blazing Saddles......

:D

(my kids love them, too)

Mat - found it!

BBC America - We've already seen the Argument Clinic and various references to the Spanish Inquistion.

Duh!! I should have guessed really. Silly me. They have MP on BBC-A all the time.

It's not quite 9am here, I'll go put the tv on now, Gosling may well have to just wake up on her own today. ;)

I'm just waiting for the Parrot Sketch, and the Lumberjack song. They just finish me off.

Don't forget the Ministry of Funny Walks. :D

Somehow I don't find that as funny as John Cleese in a pervy plastic mac, banging a dead parrot on the shop counter, and ranting in that creepy voice. "It has ceased to be."
