I had written a story I knew in my heart would not be accepted. It is a graphic story of abuse but the triumphant ending is what makes it so good. I wish they would have posted it. If ya wanna read it let me know and I will e-mail it to you. You can let me know what you think!

Try posting it elsewhere. SOL is rather flexible about what they'll accept.

I've never understood why a few of my stories were rejected, with the exception of one, and why others I, frankly, knew were poorly written crap were published (Like the one posted this morning).

OK J.J., I'm not sure whether you're being too tough on yourself or using reverse psychology to promote readership, but "Delicious" is much better than you made it sound.

I know I have had some of my stories rejected for "spelling". I used SpellCheck on them... How the hell could they be rejected for spelling? And I have read some stories on here that look like they have been written by a 3-yr-old on a keyboard, yet that is ok? Can someone explain that to me?

Hocky,

There are 5 editors that review like 75 stories each day, then Laural gets the final say. They work hard and deserve our appreciation. That said, The editors are people and people overlook things and often give you, the writer, the benefit of the doubt.

I had one story rejected because it was 749 words. Another was rejected with a note from Laural to review the proper way of presenting dialogue. There have been a couple of other places. Those rejections were fair and I learned from them.

After all, that's what Lit is all about - Learning.

Don't get upset. You say you used spell check. In MS Word, spell check saves the misspelled words you clicked on as IGNORE. Next time through, spellcheck will skip those words. Spell check isn't a cure-all. Read the story and look for the errors. You'll find them.

And keep a good attitude. The note did NOT say, "This is crap!!! How dare you submit this shit for publication." It only asked you to make it better and resubmitt.

Been there too

I've got 4 stories all pending still after almost 2 weeks because the first one had somehow gotten messed up in the upload, it had a bunch of spaces where they shouldn't have been. So, the rest of my stories that were fine are still waiting because the first one that was rejected was a part 2, and the others were follow ups. It happens, i fixed it, and resubmitted it. No worries. I don't think i'm very good at writing stories, but I've gotten alot of positive feedback so I continue to write. It's more like therapy for me. lol

Jenny,

Dont get me wrong. I understand the process, and I do appreciate the editors. They do very good work.

And my attitude is not one of a person discouraged. If it was, I would not still be writing stories to be posted on the site.

I just cant comprehend how a story that I have written and put through a spell checking system, found and fixed the mistakes, can be rejected when there are others on here that dont look like they have been edited at all.

I know it sounds like I am complaining, but I am not. I just dont get it. And probably never will. But thank you for trying to explain it all to me. I do appreciate that. ;)

I just know in my heart that a couple of my upcoming Celebrity/Tentacle stories aren't going to make it. Maybe that's why I'm taking so much time writing them, even though I know everything that is going to happen in them?

Spell check does not find - their/there/they're errors, your, you're, yore errors - or a hundred other common homophones. It is quite possible that an error or twenty remains in the story. I have edited stories submitted by people who were absolutely certain they were 'spelling perfect' and found as many as 28 misspelled words.

Not in my experience. Only if I 'add to dictionary' will they be skipped next time because, then, they'll be recognised.

As was said just above, the spelling may be correct, but it may be the wrong spelling for a particular context. Or even the wrong word completely...as in someone saying "I should OF done that" instead of the correct "I should HAVE done that."
Spellcheck will not highlight any of these words.

Sometimes the rejections are not about spelling or anything else to do with grammar, but more to do with submission processes, in that the appearance on the site will not suit without html codes and the like.

I know that

They try to be clean on here. Kids are out in the world fucking each other in 4 and 5 grades but we can't do shit. everyone has to be over 18. but if it was a friend of the site, their shit gets posted. Go look at the monthly winners and editors picks...all friends that help the site.

I know how you feel

I have started writing stories for here and it seems that every one I write is rejected, I read them over according to what is said on the top of my submission, and go to it, correcting and editing. I re-submit and have it come back again. I had one story come back 5 times before I wrote in the notes section, to just post it the way it is, I'm not correcting anyhthing else.lol. I am doing better now and use spell check after each paragraph. I re read it twice for errors and then submit
i really enjoy my work and hope others do as well. I'll give a little plug for myself here, check out lance gt in your members section and read some of my stories, please, lol
