Yesterday was my birthday. My brother had asked me to drive
the 200 miles to spend the weekend with him.

He specifically asked me to drive my Zakspeed Capri replica,as he
hadn't seen it.

There is really fine stretch of road,no traffic, and I'm cruising at
120mph,when I decide to pull in for petrol.

I drive into the forecourt.Suddenly the rear wheels lock and the car stops dead.

3 weeks previous I had a new axle fitted as the original wasn't
suited for normal driving.

So there I am with a seized rear axle, waiting for a rescue
transporter. Finally getting back home about 6 hours later.

I figure by Monday I will have cooled down enough to speak
to the mechanics.

Then I think of what might have happened had the axle seized
even 5 minutes earlier,and maybe I won't have.

You picked a damn good time to pull over for fuel, thats for sure. Hope your birthday was going good up until then, at least.

i am well practiced in the art of chakra(sp?) torture. my current record is 73 and a half hours. i'm looking to break it as soon as possible.

may i be of some assistance with your problem with the mechanics?

Thanks for the kind thought.

Believe me,I won't need help, but an audience might be nice.

I'm calm now,but you should have seen me yesterday.

I don't think they ever saw a war dance in Cornwall before.

In fact I'm so calm I'll probably only pull his legs off. After all he'll
need his arms to replace the axle.

Are you sure it's the axle and not siezed brakes? A brake problem sounds a bit more likely to me. (I'm assuming the problem manifested when you stepped on the brakes to slow down.)

Thats true, the axle would be more likely to have a problem while you were under heavy acceleration, not cruising slowly into a gas station. Get it checked, you don't want to assume its the axle just because it was just replaced and then leave the mechanic's with faulty brakes. No axle in the world will help you then...

It's a thought but definitely not brakes. The calipers are fine and the discs are clean.

I had the rear plate off this morning. It seems the diff
is locked solid with not a lot of oil about.Around a 1/2 pint came out.

Prop shaft and gear box are free.

Still we'll find out tomorrow.

how come i can scurry about the engineering deck of a 700 odd meter long interstellar starship and make adjustments where they're needed, yet i can't understand a damn thing you guys are saying? am i just THAT pathetic?!?

uhhh... don't answer that.....

Pathetic?.Of course not.

I've been playing around with cars since I was 15.

Put me on a starship and I wouln't know where to start.

Matchbox are always welcome. As long as it's a Capri of course.
