So here I am. I'm writing my stories in norwegian, so I'm not sure how helpful this board would be to me, but I'll give it a try. I lack some response on my stories before I send them to the magazines, so if anyone read this weired language, I'll be thankful for a little word in this post or as a private message.
As for now I'll hang out and discuss the writing-habit ;)

Dear I,
We don't normally wear equestrian gear at the AH.
MG
Ps. I'm afraid my Norwegian is limited to "Lutefisk" and "Lefsa," which I don't much like.
Pps. Oh, "oofta".

I read Norwegian. What magazine are you sending them to? Feel free to email me. Just see to it that your subject in the email states that it's about. I have a tendency to accidentally delete stuff in my junk mail, unless it clearly states it's from someone I know.

Welcome, I-B. May I ask what you are in between? You should not call your native tongue weird. Pierce St. is right; Americans are, for the most part, too arrogant, lazy or afraid to learn other languages. I saw a photo of our president in a school with mostly Mexican children, ostensibly promoting education. He was seated next to a little Mexicana, each of them holding up the same Spanish children's book and reading. His was upside down.

Que te vaya bien,

Perdita :rose:

Could THAT be why I can never follow his speeches

Hi in-between,

May I call you interstice for short?

And he's from Texas, where you might think he'd encountered Spanish speaking people.
Oh, he does, Pierce; cleaning his house, mowing his lawn, and of course all those hombres on death row.

Perdita :(

Nahhhh. That's just because he is an illiterate moron. Very depressing to have someone like him representing our country in foreign affairs (and my own SISTER voted for him!!)

(I'm so ashamed.)

in-between, Welcome to Lit!

Hello, in-between, we'll find all kinds of ways to welcome you, and try to get you involved in our little discussions.

Knowing the Norse are represented, and the Swedes, I wonder if we have any Finns, and Danes (and maybe even someone from Iceland - don't know how to refer to them - think the folks in Denmark call them Danes too). If so, we should have a full complement of the Scandinavian languages. Should create an interesting epic run of what to do on a cold snowy night.

BTW - we should have enough Minnesotans here to curl up with your stories (hey, Garrison Keillor couldn't be wrong).

-FF (pro-Scanding)

ps. Sarah, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Well I wouldn't call it nothing, but you certainly should not be ashamed of what you have.:)

Now if you want to make trouble, ask in-between and Svensflicka if it is Norwegians or Swedes who are the true Viking descendants. I've seen barfights between two women start on that topic.

Damn, I wanna see that some day. :)

Anyway, welcome in-! I'm 1/16 norweigan myself, (rest of me is swedish, with some russian mix waaay back) And my lady is a 100% norsk jente fra Stavanger.

I read a fair deal of norweigan, and as long as it's not grammar you need help with, I could give you a hand.

We have at least one half-Finn, and I know a little bit of Finnish, but I don't remember ever encountering a Dane in here...

Now you left me wondering if there are any other Iberians lurking around that I am unaware...

PS: RE: "Now if you want to make trouble, ask in-between and Svensflicka if it is Norwegians or Swedes who are the true Viking descendants. I've seen barfights between two women start on that topic." -- I thought the Danes were the true Viking descendants... :D

I thought the Danes were the true Viking descendants

That's what they told me in Copenhagen, but SvenskaFlicka corrected my faulty thinking in no uncertain terms.

-FF (still wondering why the rest of the townspeople ran away - where are their manners, you should greet new visitors with open arms - even if they do look a little worse from the weary toil of travel - pretty strong folks too, they need some suitcases though - they sure do look nice, everyone seems to be ginning at me.) :D

It was us SWEDES who were the REAL vikings!!! Those Danish pussies were just meek little traders!

Hey, wait, a minute. I didn't get to see any Danish pussies when I was there. Dang, I missed-out.

-FF (and I like sweet stuff too)

Roughly, if I remember corectly:

Norse: Sailed to Iceland and pillaged England.

Danes: Traded stuff in the baltic sea and down the french coast.

Swedes:Trades stuff in Russia and pillaged England.

Did I miss something?

Tonight's event has inspired me to dare try a little Norwegian...

"Seiern er vår! Seiern er vår! Åååå-åååå-åååå-ååååh! Seiern er vår!" :D

LOL

When are you gonna sing Denmark's national anthem? ;)

Hm, when I think about it. I'm part Norwegian too. Grandma was from Norway.

Welcome

Welcome in_between, sorry can't help with the Norwegian, I visited Norway back in 1972 but have just about forgotten all the phrases I learned while there.:D

I'm another bad one I'm afraid, apart from basic phrases I'm a multilingual illiterate, I can't speak several different languages.

pops.............:D

AND we were down to the Middle East! "Röde Orm", remember?

Yeah. I guess my list was what they mostly did. A few boldly went where no bearded man with a horny helmet had gone before. Särkland, Vinland, y'know.

Still, excluding the occational runestone, it's the pillaging of England and the fornication of Scotland that has set the most visible marks in the world of today.
