North to the Future

Wow. I've been in Chicago for most of the last week. It was cooler downtown than in Anchorage. Saturday was beautiful, in the 70s with a nice breeze and scattered clouds. Weird summer. Should be sweaty hot with heavy humidity.

Smoky here from Russian wildfires.

I see Jill Biden is going to be in town, today.

"The trip opens Wednesday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, where the first lady meets with military and veteran families who stay at Alaska Fisher House free of charge when a loved one is hospitalized. She will also visit Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage to encourage people to get their COVID-19 vaccinations."

If the rain quits, i was going to ride out by ANMC today, but now, I will take a different route to stay away from any security BS. If the rain quits.

"A TSUNAMI WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT WHICH INCLUDES THE COASTAL AREAS OF ALASKA FROM HINCHINBROOK ENTRANCE ALASKA, WHICH IS LOCATED 90 MILES E OF SEWARD, TO SAMALGA PASS ALASKA, WHICH IS LOCATED 30 MILES SW OF NIKOLSKI,... If you are located in this coastal area, move inland to higher ground. Tsunami warnings mean that a tsunami with significant inundation is possible or is already occurring. Tsunamis are a series of waves dangerous many hours after initial arrival time. The first wave may not be the largest. At 1016 PM Alaska Daylight Time on July 28 an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 8.1 occurred 60 miles southeast of Chignik Alaska. Estimated tsunami start times for selected sites are; Sand Point Alaska 1055 PM. AKDT...........etc."

I slept through it.

My late father built his retirement home overlooking the Pacific over two hundred feet above sea level. He had this theory that people would be willing to pay to be out of tsunami range. The market disagreed with him I think. He probably should have built it on the beach.

The top two floors had wooden decks but no deck chairs. The winds were too high even behind tempered glass (balustrades?) to enjoy it.

Concrete is the outdoor furniture that doesn't blow away. My deck table is so heavy that it takes two men grunting hard to move it. It hasn't blown away. If you turn the chairs over, they have no aerodynamics and weather the wind.

I look down at the people 200' above the water.

A bear came through the yard at 7:07a and I just watched in on the cam, not bothering to get up. It was a good sized black bear. Someone with trash out in the neighborhood will have their cans knocked over. The Fish and Game guys only want us to call in the brown bears.

A beautiful morning. 54°F and barely a breath of a breeze. The clouds are gonna go away and it will be sunny. I'd better get the south side trimmed before it gets too hot.

Pray tell, why only the brown bears?

Black or brown, isn't it animal racism?

Polar bears don't seem to be on the radar.

:D

The brown bears are the ones that generally attack humans around here. And usually, they are protecting a moose kill or cubs. Black bears aren't big on moose killing, though they don't really give a damn about what they eat. The local polar bears are behind bars.
