North to the Future

reading Thors link, it just boggles the mind. So is the school board going to recommend parents turn off the internet for their children...after all there are lots of controversial subjects on it as well.

I would hope the school board wouldn't presume to do so.
I think there are plenty of books out there that can broaden a student's horizons within the limits of a school year that don't linger on sex or disparage white people. Would any of us be comfortable with a book the focused on belittling black, brown or red people that was part of the curriculum?
They will not be harmed by not having these five at their disposal, and no one is stopping a curious student from acquiring the books on their own. I'd bet you can get them as ebooks cheap.
And if they go to college, there will be plenty of classes where the focus will be on disparaging white people. What's the rush?

OMG! Majestic. If I ever was blessed enough to see a sight like this I’d be in heaven.

In the Chugach Mountains. Likely close to Marcus Baker. See the icefall coming off the high glacier? It can snow 20 feet a week up there.

It’s over 50F out here on the deck. Not a cloud in the sky. This 90 Minute IPA is delish. It looks like the swans have left the marsh at the bottom of the hill. Enjoying the vitamin D and a little breeze. Oh, the tide is about 2/3 out. I can see Redoubt but it’s too hazy for a photo. Denali is lost in the haze.

The Fire Danger Sign is something I just can’t get used to even after all this time. Very scary.

A great sandwich! I do miss the atmosphere of the old days when Lenore owned the place. That woman wouldn't put up with any rudeness or bullshit, but she was a kind woman. She'd give a free lunch to a hungry person and she always had a helper who was recovering from this or that. If you were a ne'er-do-well, she's shoo you out the door with a broom.

The APD has a sense of humor

"It’s WHAT NOT TO DO WEDNESDAY! 🚓 #WNTDW

Our officers received a tip regarding the location of a local felon who had a bunch of “go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200” outstanding warrants. We showed up to the house and knocked on the door. A female came to the door but wouldn’t open it. She decided the best form of communication would be to yell through the window. Okay then. We explained why we were there and who we were there for and OF COURSE she insisted Warrant Man wasn’t there.

There were two main problems with her lying about Warrant Man not being inside. The first is that we had an eye-witness who saw him there. The second is that WE saw him there. Through the window. And when he saw us see him he ducked. Too late. We explained to Window Lady that if she continued to interfere with his arrest that we would get a warrant, arrest him, and then arrest her too. She decided to do it the hard way.

We kept up our end of the deal by securing the residence, obtaining a warrant, breaching the door, arresting Warrant Man, AND criminally charging her. If you keep us from doing our job then you get in trouble, too. As an aside – having your door breached is never good for the door. Just one more issue that could have been avoided had everyone just cooperated in the first place. Food for thought.

Use your inside voice, play well with others, and remember we’re all in this together."
