I would say that snow and ice were the substances loading the roof, but the actual cause of failure is still in the air. I'm betting that the structural engineer might not have done a proper job.

My pavement and gravel road bike when she was new nine years ago. Since then, the fork has been replaced due to a recall, there's a Blackburn carrier added to the rear for panniers, and new and slightly wider tires that run right at 40 psi are installed along with egg beater pedals. It's not the fastest rig out there, but she will climb and there's some comfort on the rough roads.

For scale, those are 700c tires and the snow was a little deeper 9 years ago than it is, today.
