North to the Future

My pavement and gravel road bike when she was new nine years ago. Since then, the fork has been replaced due to a recall, there's a Blackburn carrier added to the rear for panniers, and new and slightly wider tires that run right at 40 psi are installed along with egg beater pedals. It's not the fastest rig out there, but she will climb and there's some comfort on the rough roads.

For scale, those are 700c tires and the snow was a little deeper 9 years ago than it is, today.

So, Alaska will be vaccinating tourists starting in June. Come on down and spend your money on a vaccination vacation.

"If you live in Tuluksak, you can pack water from a hole in the frozen Kuskokwim River, which is about 2 miles from town. You’ll need a vehicle, and if that’s a snowmachine or four-wheeler you’ll need a sled. Residents need to be careful of wolves, which have been spotted near the village lately. People should plan for about a 45-minute round trip, and will want to bring want an ice pick. But Henry Peter’s ice pick had gone missing, so he had to gamble on an open hole."
