North to the Future

Those people have been evac'd and are currently housed in the Alaska Airlines Center (an arena). They've basically lost everything they aren't carrying with them. More planeloads are coming. I don't know where they will be sheltered.
I knew that... it looks like a C-5A.
I shouldnt make light of a terrible situation.

"Before they boarded the Alaska Army National Guard CH-47 helicopter to return to Bethel, they collected two dogs to deliver to a rescue organization and two Christmas cactuses Murkowski said she hoped would reach their owner.

The trip revealed a grim picture for Kipnuk’s people, she said.

“It’s hard to see homes that people lived in less than a week ago, homes with plants and puppies. People who have lived there for generations,” she said. “And to now realize that there is no home to return to, that is a really hard reality.”"

That’s horrible. Thanks, I wondered why there was a Christmas cactus.
Are they mainly native /first people?!

Yes. Some have never been out of the village. Most have been to Bethel with is a regional hub of 6k people, but Anchorage with almost 300k people is a huge shock to them.
It’s going to be so hard for them. II hope there is a way to keep them together.
was the flooding related to changes in the permafrost?
