Oh this is too damned funny. Now we have people in town governments down here talking about splitting Florida in half and creating two states.

It will never happen but it will be amusing to see just how far it goes.

Oh and the sad thing was reading the comments made by people in the local paper. Sad and Scary, just shows how people can react when they are annon.

What is it with the "Sunshine States" and splitting in two? California has a long-standing separatist movement in Northern California -- it's going nowhere as fast as the Florida separatists will, but at least I can see the Northern California argument.

Why do Floridians want to split up?

They think it will give them more power. 'Those blasted people on the other side of the line won't get any more say in our lives.'

I saw a person on another forum who said the U.S. should completely split up. Mostly, once you deconstructed his arguments, because Alabama wasn't being treated fairly by the rest of the U.S. Especially those blasted commies in the Northeast. :D

There's still a fair number of Quebec seperatistés here in Canada. And a lot of people in Alberta want to leave Canada as well. The current Prime Minister among them.

Floridians like me want to split the state because South Florida is not Florida, to our way of thinking. Ditto for West Florida. These two regions have always been alien appendages.

I live in Illinois. Two "states" within one border is nothing new to me.

Minnesota is the same way. The south is the prairie/ farmland with the Twin Cities and north is where everyone vacations. No one in the south part of the state wants to spend any money on anything up here. And then they drive up to their million dollar 'lake cabin' and bitch about the roads! :D

My Johnson ancestors are from Illinois. Illinois is probably 3 distinct states. Chicago, everything south of US 50, and everything north of US 50.

The Upper Peninsula has been trying for many years to become a seperate state from the rest of Michigan. If we did, maybe some of the state revenue would actually help the UP instead of it all going to Gov.Jenny and her friends who don't need it!
