Noobie Question: Responding to Story Comments?

Recently posted a story and received a complimentary comment. What is the etiquette on these? Am I expected to reply?

Recently posted a story and received a complimentary comment. What is the etiquette on these? Am I expected to reply?

I have left several comments on stories, always with the expectation that they won't be responded to. But I have received replies and consider it a bonus.

I noticed that some authors wrote a brief group "Thank you" to the one line comments like "Great story", mine included. Which took them out of the danger zone of appearing too eager to please.

It felt good tho, when a writer wrote a more personalized and warm response to one of my more enthusiastic and lengthier posts. Otherwise, I would have felt like an idiot.

It's always nice to feel appreciated.
