NonHuman, Vampire, Innkeeper

I'm trying to find a story which centered on a woman who ran a place for travellers to rest overnight. Not specifically a hotel or an inn, just a home. It had kind of an alternative historical fiction feel to it. The vampire snuck in to hide in the basement and church elders came around to 'inspect' the place.

Sound familiar at all? I don't know whether it was in the NonHuman or the Sci-Fi Fantasy category.
