There must be some?

I've got two to offer (one mine, one stolen):

"His cock hung lifeless, as useful as Giambi's glove."
"I'd hit that like John Arne Riise."

Any more for any more?

Their bodies came together like horse and rider straining as one for the leap.

That wasn't a simile at all, as I recall.

It's not? *blink*

I thought I had it right, but then I think that that "using or not using 'like' or 'as'" business is so minor a point that I never remember whether it's simile or metaphor that does it.

Oh. Or were you being clever and complimentary, and was I being obtuse?

I'm saying that there really was a Horse and Rider... And a tremendous leap. ;)

A compliment that got away from me. Compliments should always be couched in unmistakeable terms, I find.

Anyway, yes-- a simile has "like" or "as," a metaphor has no comparative language.

Allow me to compliment you unambiguously on both your learning and your graciousness. :) Apologies for being dense - the more so given that I had that very story in mind when I wrote the simile. I'm having a dull-witted day.

Like an English soccer team ;)
ETA: I think I broke all the entry rules like a virgin at a wife swapping party (for athletes) :D
