Noah

I think sung by Burl Ives ?

I know an old lady that swallowed a fly.
I don't know why,
she swallowed that fly.
Perhaps she'll die.

I know an old lady that swallowed a spider,
it wriggled 'n wriggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I dont know why she swallowed that fly.
Perhaps she'll die.

after umpteen verses
I know an old lady that swallowed a horse.
She's dead of course.

Hey, Myrrdin!

Did you learn that song from me?
I used to sing it, nekkid, at every truckstop and honky tonk in Arkansas (and there's plenty of 'em), and later, on the talk show circuit.

My signature song, in fact.

That along with "I Couldn't Look When Granny Slipped On the Banana Peel."

And, of course, the famous:

The Lord told Noah there's gonna be a floody-uddy
Lord told Noah there's gonna be a floody-uddy
Get those children out of the muddy-uddy
Children of the Lord.

(and lots more verses to that, too -- in keeping with the Noah/Methodist theme).

ah yes, spring...

Birds chirping (and pooping on my car), grass growing (hand me an antihistamine please), and eight million bugs in my house 'cause the munchykins are under the misguided notion that they were born in a barn.

Oh well, 'tis good to wear only one layer of clothing again!
*weg*

I hate when this happens! I have 2 more papers to write before going to 10 hours of classes and all that keeps running through my head are snatches of:

"I know an old lady who swallowed a dog
what a hog -- to swallow a dog
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat
swalowed the cat to catch the spider
swallowed the spider to catch the fly
but I don't know why she swallowed the fly
Perhaps she'll die..."

and...

"So rise and shine and give God the glory-ory
Rise and shine and give God the glory-ory
Rise and shine and give God the glory-ory
Children of the Lord."

"The animals, the animals they came on by twosy-oozies
Animals, the animals, they came on by twosy-oozies
Elephants and kanga-roozy-oozies
Children of the Lord...."

Sorry, no mention of flies in the NOAH song.

Here in middle Tennessee spring (or is it suddenly summer?) is at full-tilt....it has been in the 80's and sunny the last several days...dogwoods blooming for Easter, irises making a show in shades of violet and yellow..***** is good!

Learn it! Don't you remember the guy who used to help you stick your tassels on every night?

(Wasn't there a bird between the cat and the spider?)

LOL! :p I swear the baby makes me sing that to her at least 7 times in a row. I usually sing it fast and each verse in one breath if possible to get it out of the way!

I can't be the only one who remembers this...

Get some green alligators,
and long-necked geese,
some humpty-backed camels,
and some chimpanzees,
some cats and rats and elephants,
but sure as you're born,
don't you forget my Unicorn...

I remember. Dammit.

LMAO DCL. That has to be the hubby person's favorite song. Snatched it off *mumbles* one night just to make him happy!

Earthgoddess, I don't know who wrote it, but a band called The Irish Rovers sings it.
