I got the coolest news about some little girls I know in the DC area. They have a new puppy. I got pics.

The mom is finding the little bugger hard to photograph. He's so damn black, the background fools the camera and the subtle contrasts are lost on the images. He looks like an inkspot, a silhouette, in some of the pics. But the ones she sent are mostly okay.

Here's the other girl with Kiji (which is short for Kijibwa).

Kiji asleep. He likes sleep. He likes to romp in snow. He dotes on the girls. He eats. He is a real live egalitarian American dog, juvenile form. A portrait.

That last one was a great shot. The camera was close enough to get all the facial details and the red shirt seems to have helped. Looks like the pup has a large amount of Lab in him. Should grow to be a fair sized house hound.

Yep, holed it in one, Rumple. Black Labrador, from a breeder they know. The girls are smug. They spend a lot of time on the dog bed keeping Kiji company. It's been more work for Mom and even for Dad when he's home (he's Air Force), but the family lost a longtime friend, another Lab, not long ago, and the puppy is wonderful grief therapy.

Nice people. I have yet to make the acquaintance of Kiji, though.
