This is the first thread that I've started so I'm not sure where it's going to go.
The reason I started this is because I've quit smoking today. This is not the first time I've quit, but I'm hoping it will be the last time. I finally decided that paying almost $10 a pack isn't worth it anymore. I'm tired of coughing all the time, I'm tired of being out of breath when running up a flight of stairs. So I'm doing this for myself and for my kids.
This is a place for anyone, myself included because I'm going to need it, who is quitting and wants some encouragement, support or just to bitch how crappy it is not to have that nicotine. So we'll see what happens with this.
I know right now it's only been 4 hours since my last one and I'm feeling the craving coming.
So good luck to anyone in the same position right now.

Bumping my own thread.

I guess there isn't anyone in the same situation right now.

I don't smoke, but I commend you for trying to quit. Good luck. Hope that this time it works.

You will never regret quitting. I quit in March of 1978. I went cold turkey. Morning sickness made it easier.

Hi Vinde!! I quit smoking back in 1980 when my (then 4 yr old daughter) asked me not to smoke "Because I want you to be my Mommy for a long time!" I,too quit cold turkey and it was rough. I know you can do it,too! Huggggggs!

Ok... time for a dog type response...... I have something you can inhale!!!!!

Good luck with your battle. I personally have never smoked, but understand those that have.

This is probably different than anything you have ever heard Vinde, but I quit smoking in September 2002 and I give all thanks to hypnosis therapy. I didn't try everything under the sun first, because I had heard of the success rates. So I decided to try something taboo first. Guess that is just my nature. :D

I went to a seminar that was given on donations (5 dollars) and got my first session with about 50 other people. Then afterwards they sold hypnotic tapes in which you were to listen to first thing in the morning and last thing at night before going to sleep for about two weeks. I only lasted about a week, though.

The thoughts they instill in you is that cigarette smoking is akin to vomiting, accidently cutting yourself, falling, every bad thing that could happen to you, and the one time I tried to smoke after 3 days of therapy I nearly puked! I don't know if this is right for everyone but it has worked for me!!!

Research it and see if it is something that may help you also.

I quit both times i was pregnant too. It makes it a little easier to quit when you feel nauseous each time you light up. Thanks for the support dgo.

My kids definitely were a deciding factor in me quitting too. They are now old enough to realize how bad smoking is and i really don't want them to become smokers when they are older. Today's been pretty tough, lots of gum, but I'm just taking it one day at a time.

Thank you VV. That is something i have thought about. I may have to look into more in depth now. I appreciate your post.

Good luck to you Vinde !

I know it's hard to do.. I quit with my last pregnancy..(16 yrs ago) made me really really sick when I'd light up.

It's a hard fought battle but you know the end result will be worth it !!

Hang in there !!

Thanks jasmine.

Well I'm on day two and it sucks. Have wanted to give in so much so that's when i pop in a mint or another piece of gum:D .

Hi Vinde...I quit on January 1st. I got really sick so it was easy. I just didn't want a smoke (had a sore throat and broncitis). I had smoked for almost 40 years. Unfortunately I gained 30 lbs. so now I'm doing Atkins :D

I think ya just need to keep your mouth busy. Use a toothpick or a straw. Try not to use food cause you'll blow up like a balloon. Focus your mind on something like work or sex so you don't think about smoking, and everytime you feel the need, pinch yourself real hard till it hurts...eventually you'll associate cigarettes with pain ;)

Hi Joey.
I've been chewing a lot of gum and that helps a bit. The bad thing about quitting at valentine's is that i've got all this junk in the house from kid's parties so i'm really trying to stay away from it. I do like that pinching idea that might just work, thanks.:D

I quit 7 years ago on New Year's Eve. It was a bet with my mother and brother and I was the only one that still does not smoke. It was the best thing I ever did. Like Carrie on's daughter, my youngest son said he wanted me to be here for him. I went cold turkey.....threw them in the garbage and never smoked again. I didn't find it really that hard because I changed my habits. I kept a pencil close to the phone so I doodled during a call and got up from the table after dinner etc. Once I did that it was a breeze. Good Luck and please keep it up...  :rose:

Easy on the gum...it makes ya hungry. Hang in there cause after a short while, when your body cleans out all the nicotine it'll get easier. Drink lots of water and work out a lot. The more ya pee the better. I still like the smell of cigarette smoke but if I inhale any it really is uncomfortable now. They're getting ready to increase the tax here over 400% so I think many will be quitting. I also think it's unfair though. They should tax the heck out of junk food and chocolate. ;)

Vinde

I know I only tried smoking once in my life... and me and my friend got caught by her mother and I never tried it again...but I am proud of you for wanting to stop..your kids are a good reason to live a full healthy life.

My two sister in laws and mother in law have all quit in the past 5 yrs. I do know my one sister in law did it by sucking on scotch mints. My mother in law did the patch thing.

Good Luck in what ever you try.

Happy Valentines Day.

Chocolate is good for you...as long as you don't consume a huge amount at one sitting/standing.

waving back to KW. How have you been. Have a great Valentine's Day!

Vinde one more note to you. My dad went to a seminar given by the 7th Day Adventist. I think it cost him a $10 donation, but he could not eat anything spicy, had to drink lots of water and juices for 3 days and he was to take showers several times a day or as much as possible, to help flush out all the nicotine from his body. He quit for over a year and then started back due to stress. Mom finally made him go outside to smoke, none of us smoked, and she was tired of everything smelling like smoke. He finally quit cold turkey when I was pregnant. I told him that when the baby was born I didn't want him to smoke around it. He got the flu and like Joey he was coughing so hard and it was making him sick everytime he lit up. So he put them away, until he got over the flu. Well needless to say he has never picked them up again. He said that by the time he got over the flu the desire had gone away too! So he has been smoke free for a little over 12 yrs now. He is 74 and started to smoke when he was about 11, I think. Good luck and God Bless you as you try to do this.
