So ever since the Revolutionary War all peoples in the US have been equal. News to me, I can remember children being escorted into school (and cops stopping children going into school) because they had the wrong choice of parents.

The prospect of the wrong ethnic groups becoming the majority in the US gets the racist Republicans in a tizzy, because they know well how minorities get treated and they don't want to be in the minority.

That's BS. What happened to the North after they destroyed most of the South? The South was mostly an agrarian society. The North had plenty of farms and other food production.

You make it sound like nothing happened before that, for one thing.

For another, "destroying the south" didn't destroy the north too. Some things got more expensive for northern industrialists because the economics of labor exploitation changed.

Not an awful lot, though. Freed slaves still worked shit work for shit pay.

Abolition of lavery took weeks and for years afterwards those who had been slaves didn't notice any change in their status. (In some Southern states that persisted until the 1960s)

As a matter of fact, the Republican Party agreed to call an end to Reconstruction in exchange for letting them "win" the disputed 1876 presidential election. And then neither major party did much of anything for civil rights until the 1940s.

Its probably always been broken. I would be interested when I have some cash to burn to buy, or see if they are available online what education looks like in say the UK. Do they teach the Revolution as "These punks we just spent the entire treasury on just refuse to pitch in a little money? Oh and now they're cool with the French!" Which isn't inaccurate.

We have National Curriculum set topics. Henry VIII ( and this wives and the Tudors) are still there this week. The American War of Independence and the War of 1812 have little coverage, but the UK Civil War and Cromwell is.

If we think at all about the US war of Independence we think the US constantly understates the influence of the French - then the world's greatest superpower. The US War of Independence was a sideshow in the coninuing wars between the French and English.

History has always been a debatable topic. In my day at school in the UK we studied up to the outbreak of WW1 in 1914; in Australia up to 1939.

But large chunks of UK and European history were always omitted. As for World History? Forget it.

The pre-WW1 Entente Cordiale was supposed to end years of antagonism
between the French and English. Even 100 years later, the antagonism is still there. We don't have freedom fries. The Big M version of fries aren't real chips. We know that the Belgians invented potato chips (but they eat them with mayonaisse - yuck!).
