Hi everyone,

Posted the first 5 chapters of my work and it's had around 12 to 15K views, which is awesome, however, not a single comment. Is this a common occurrence? On the one hand I'm thrilled about the overall rating my work has received from the demanding readership here on Lit, on the other, with no feedback leaves the author wondering if the work gives the reader a general sense of "meh"?

I have one story that has no comments. I always wonder why.
It's a short story though so maybe that's why.

I wonder why some stories get a ton of comments and well some get nothing!

Category choice makes a huge difference to comments.

Category choice makes a huge difference to comments.

I get about 1 comment for every 1,000 - 1,500 views per story on average. Differs a bit from story to story. There could be any number of reasons why there's no comments but usually I've found if you don't really grab the readers and give them something to like or not like, you won't get as many.

Also, right at the end I usually invite comments. A good trolling anonymous comment usually gets other readers going in response :D - altho Ogg might disagree

People comment when they want to; sometimes no one wants to. Multi-chapter stories often don't get comments on the middle chapters. Short stories intended to get the reader to orgasm may not get comments. But ultimately a random population randomly finds your stories and there's a lot of random variation in the results. Basically, whatever happens, it's normal.

Category makes a big difference too, I think.

To get comments you have to wow the readers, give them something to comment about.

Writing outside the box works for me - I have a satisfying little collection of "nice erotic writing, different to the usual stuff around here". But I don't write stroke, I don't write eighteen year olds (other than the obligatory "first time" recount), and my stories are slow burn.

I have several without comments all with more than 5,000 reads. Then I have one with 1,200 reads and 47 comments. And another with 46K reads and 0 comments.

Categories span Loving Wives, Erotic Coupling and Incest/Taboo.

My record for views without a single comment is 70,000.

But that story was posted long before public comments were implemented. Several of my older stories have received comments since they were possible.

My record since the introduction of public comments is 50,000 with many in the range 20,000 to 40,000.
