No, I don't want windows 10

Windows 10 is fantastic. I have no regrets about upgrading.
The only thing I did have to do was download ClassicShell because the new start menu is ugly as fuck.

Go Linux It's less intrusive and works.

For large definitions of work. Every day I read about the joys of Linux "working": bad video drivers, sound which doesn't work, unable to go into or out of sleep mode, the infighting of developers who don't listen to the end users.

Linux works only if one is willing to put in the time to make it work.

This is not an endorsement of Windows. The abomination which is Windows 10 is shit all around because, like Linux, the developers did not listen to the end users. I'm waiting for the class action lawsuit to hammer Microsoft when one of their forced "updates" hoses people's systems and kills productivity.

When I eventually built a new desktop PC sometime later this year, I'll probably get Windows 10 home premium 64-bit for the one and only reason of the DirectX12 support.

Microsoft, please stop reminding me every single day that my windows 10 upgrade is ready.

I'll get it when I'm good and ready.
I'm quite surprised you, of all people, would ever get windows 10.

You can disable the nagging. Don't remember exactly how at the top of my head. Google it.

There are three updates you have to remove from Windows. Depends which OS you have what the three KB numbers are.

:D God forbid anyone would ever have to do that!

Mike:

Get W10 Pro instead of Home - with Pro, you can configure updates to delay for up to a year, thereby fully protecting yourself from any defective ones, while still wielding all the power to implement the updates you want at any time.

That is, if you're "willing to put in the time to make it work." :D

I've worked (to some degree) with every Windows edition since 3.1 (I did Apples before that) and have been using W10 Pro constantly for a month or so now - I say 10 Pro is the finest edition of Windows I've ever used. Period.

However, upon download, I extinguished almost all of the defaults as far as privacy and wifi usability are concerned, and I didn't download with a Live account, but simply locally. Doing so disables all the comfort connectivity features of 10: Cortana, cloud access, syncing, et al, but I, personally, don't need 10 for anything else but it's base OS so I can compatibly work with others who totally rely on Windows for everything, and to stay up-to-date with all Windows editions to aid others when they have issues with their Windows individual editions.

My computer which currently hosts W10Pro dual boots with Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa Cinnamon Edition - which I enjoy using more than any OS software I've ever known.

Remember that, "officially", your free upgrade to 10 expires July 29, 2016 (although it wouldn't surprise me to see MS extend that deadline in some fashion). Right now newegg.com is offering OEM 10Pro for $139, so that gives you an idea of what you might have to spend after July 29th if you don't take advantage of MS's free offer before then.

I read about a way to get rid of that annoying message...can't quite remember where...

From Microsoft Community forums...

It's hard to believe that people have been suffering for so long. A tool to kill this 'virus' was released months ago named GWX Control Panel, & it has been improved a few times since. I run a computer business & use it to kill this virus on my client's computers.

Here is the link: http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

If MS won't let me post this, search for GWX control panel download & select the 'Ultimate Outsider' site.

Of course the other way is to buy a OEM version of Window 7 - they are unable to download the free version of Windows 10. I have that type of Windows 7
