Nightworld

He didnt want to let go of her hand as she got up for coffee. She was the only "right" thing about this whole situation, this whole world. her touch felt soothing, and ....familiar? He coudl also tell as she got up and fixed the meal that that coat was about the only thing she had on. And that seemed to excite him, a little.

The pastry was quite fresh, which struck him as odd. How could fresh crosiiants be here, when theres no one else here to make them? Yet another mystery stacked on top of the pile of strange
things that this world was comprised of.

"You said we've meet here, you know the name of the man who owns this place, do you know anything else about this place? About this city? Heck, i'd settle with just knowing our first names."
grinning as he said it.

~he looked around, he found it a bit chilly. He was standing in what looked like a parking lot. He walked out into the lot farther and then turned around, noticing a sign~

Hospital...

~he could read, that was good. He never remembered anything, all he knew was he could read, and speak. He stumbled around as he looked around the monsterous hospital. There was no one around, silent. There were cars around but nothing, no sounds, no birds nothing. There had to be other's like him. He was alone in a part of town, he had never been at, to his knowledge.

He had found a bike that caught his attention, he didn't know why, he didn't even know what it was. He knelt down and reached out to touch it when something sped through his mind, a memory...

People ran by, there was an ambulence by the entrance and suddenly, the man that was riding the bike had been run into by another man. He fell as did the bike.

Hey man, sorry about that.

~the man helped the boy up, he couldn't see either faces but he knew that they were different ages~

Watch where your going next time mister! Jeez, almost got me killed by that car.

Call me...

~it was like watching a movie and then suddenly, just as the faces became invisible, it started to fade and he felt as a stabbing feeling in his arm. He grasped it and his veins were easily noticable. He winced and screamed as the pain became unbearable and then suddenly, like it was a bee that flew by, it was gone. His arm was normal and he didn't feel the pain~

Wa- what was that?

~he groaned as he stood back up as he looked at the bike and walked away, tacking glance back at it~

Miss Brooks

Coming back to her senses she lowered her hand from his cheek, but something kept her from leaving the security of his arms.

"I don't know who called you. It could have been me, but I don't remember. I can't seem to remember anything ... Except you were walking towards me and you called me Miss Brooks... and you're Martin... and there were.. others... waiting for us at a place called Luna's Diner. None of this makes any sense. What's going on?"

Just then the most horrible sound filled her ears. Except it wasn't an audible sound. It was INSIDE her, inside her mind. Squeezing her eyes shut in pain she clutched her head and screamed out in agony. It was then that she felt the long jagged scar hidden by her hair, though she was too preoccupied at the moment with the assault on her senses to think anything of it.

The German Guy

I suffled down the sidewalk trying to stay in the shadows. My head still reeling from the mental attack. That's the only way I could explain it to myself, but I didn't know why. Scheiße, what is wrong with me? I don't even know who I am.

the girl

She smiled, an honest happy smile.

' I completely agree, I dont know how I know, it justseems to happen'

The young girl took another bite of her croissant, she truly was fmished. I t was obvious where ever she had been, she handt eaten in a while.

'These are croissants are so good..'she said between bites, 'maybe I should get another, oh drat, I forgot about the coffee..would you like a cup

She got up from the table and was heading to the restraunt counter to grab them a cup of coffee when the scream came.

I t came from maybe a couple blocks away, it was a horrible sound. But it was human, it was another voice. Some one lost just like they.

'Please tell me you heard that and it wasnt just in my head' she said pauisng midway and looking back to him.

The one arm man had a look that told her that he had heard it himself.

She was so secure here, this place felt safe. But if there was another person out there..maybe someone who knew something..

She walked to the door

'I think we should go check it out'

He just nodded and smiled as she asked if he wanted some coffee. Something to drink sounded pretty good right now, his throat was parched. He turne dhis head to watch her go behind the counter when he heard the scream. He nearly jumped out of his seat, the sound breaking the silence. He couldnt tell if it was female or male, but whoever it was sounded in pain.. or in terror.

He got up and looked around for a weapon, anything really. There was no way he was going after the sourceof a sound liek that without a way to defend himself. Underneath the cash register he found it. A pain wooden baseball bat, the handle worn with use, nicks and scrathes along the length. He's seen this bat before, hadnt he?

he brushed the thought aside as he saw her open the door to leave. Scurrying around the counter, he caught up to her as she just stepped outside, barring her way with his left arm so he could stay one step ahead of her. Cautiosly they started down the street twoads the source of the scream.

How could pain have a color? It didn't make sense, it seemed to defy logic. Colors hurting him, as if numbers could fight, or letters were able to dance and run.

But... that's what it felt like. He was being assaulted by the color red, turned, toiled over. He was in a washing machine, twisting and turning, red all over him, running through his very being.

As abrubtly as it came, it stopped. Martin could see whatever it was that happened affected her as well as him.

He still held her close, trying to ease her from the pain shooting through her body... shooting through both of their bodies.

"Luna's Diner? Could there have been others? Others who knew?"

No, she was describing a different memory. One that sounded fun and exciting. His had been horrible and insensitive.

"But..." he tried to think it over, the aftershocks of red still throbbing inside him, "Maybe there's a clue at the diner. Maybe Luna's holds something."

He searched her eyes for help, "Do you think you could remember where it is? Where we need to go?"

OOC:

OOC

LOL.. and we were just coming to get you, not a worry..maybe we'll bump into some other characters..have a good weekend

~he wandered around, in the odd clothes he had found. He didn't find them unappealing, just, odd. It was if no one was on the road, he walked on the side of the road like a bum without a home. He wished he knew where he was and even who he was. He wanted to know if there were more people like him.

He looked around from the bridge in central park. No one, not even a dog. He didn't know what a dog was but he seemed to know the word.~

IS ANYONE OUT THERE?!

~he screamed, hoping to get an answer but still, nothing~

[Patience]

Patience sat in bed, rocking back and forth as she hummed a tune. It was a childish tune, all melody without meaning. She didn't know where she had learned it. She didn't remember who she was. But it made her feel better. She was wearing a hospital robe, but she didn't know why. She wasn't hurt. At least, she didn't feel hurt.

Maybe the doctors would be here soon to tell her what was wrong.

Her humming became a gentle "la-la-lala" trill that served more to soothe than anything. As she became calmer, she stood and rose from the bed. There was a mirror on the wall at the other side of the room. She wandered over to look it, hoping it would remind her of something.

It wasn't a mirror she found, but a funny window. It had to be because there was a black woman looking back at her. Oh, she looked pretty enough, in a large, tall way, but she was a stranger. The woman was wearing a hospital gown as well and Patience opened her mouth to ask her why. The black woman mimicked her. It made Patience giggle to see someone playing so. She raised her hand and the black woman did the same. She tapped her hand against her head.. and watched as the other woman did it too. Then Patience reached out to touch her new friend and...

[Mad James]

..."N-nooooooo!!!!!"

Mad James screamed as she watched the liar mirror try to make him believe he was a woman.

"N-Nooooo! It's not true! I'm a guy, I'm a normal guy!"

So why was he wearing a hospital dress? He ripped it off and turned back to the liar mirror. The woman was naked now and Mad James snatched the thing from the wall and tossed it across the room. He searched desperately for something that would show he was right about who he was. How could someone set that mirror up like that and why was he here? He ran to the closet and opened it. It was empty except for another hospital gown. That just scared him more.

"I'm not a crazy woman!" He screamed as he fled the room. "I'm a normal guy! I'm a normal guy! I'm a normal guy!"

the girl

She nervously followed her friend as they walked down the eerie dark streets.

The scream had stopped, but then faintly in the ditance they heard another. A different voice, a different scream.

She nealry jumped out of her skin and clung to the arm of her rescuer. Or that was what she thought of him now.He had a bat, he could protect them. Couldnt he.

She huddled up next to him

'I'm scared'

He wrapped his left arm reassuringly around her and she felt aves of warmth come from him.

'I'm scared..but we still have to know..i think somebody was calling out that time..calling out for help'

She only hoped some help came before trouble did.

"Sounded like it came from this way," he pointed, using the bat.

He could feel the line so fher body thru the coats between them, fell her shudder in fear. He tried to not shudder himself, to show some resolve.

As they walked, the stayed close to the parked cars, partially to use them as some sort of cover. They passes by the building he initially exited out of, and his arm brushed that same familiar car..

A quick fleeting image of a memory flashed before his eyes. Him IN that car, but then it was crushed, nearly on its side. Out the shattered glass he saw the woman he was with now, yelling, pleading twoards him as she was being pulled away. Him reaching his left arm out the drivers window in a vain attempt to reach her. And the car shifting, the broken window edge coming down on his wrist, and blinding agony...

He uncontrolably yanked his arm free from her grasp, expecting to see a bloody mess at the end of it, but nothing. Nothing but a long healed over stub of his arm. He looked around bewilderingly, almost losing his grip on the bat. what was going on here?

Miss Brooks

Visibly shaken she let out a held in breath, relieved that whatever it had been had stopped. She could tell by the way that he held her that he had heard it too, felt it too.

"Do you think you could remember where it is? Where we need to go?"

The pleading look in his eyes was almost enough to make her cry. He was asking her for help and she had none to offer. Still she tried. Closing her eyes she racked her brain for something, ANYTHING. But it was no use. She couldn't remember anything that might help them. She opened her eyes again and shook her head.

"I'm sorry.. I can't remember anything. But you're right, there might be something there that can help us figure out what is going on. We have to find it, we have to at least try."

~he sighed and wandered more throughout the park. He stumbled out of the park like a drunk. He sighed as he came out and noticed a diner. He tilted his head walked to it. As he went to open the door, as soon as he tocuhed it anyway, something popped into his head~

Don't worry Jake, it'll be fine

~he heard his own voice so he knew his name wasn't Jake. Then another voice he thought he remembered but he couldn't recall spoke~

No its not, I can't let you be part of this experiment, we haven't tested on anything yet, why'd you want to join the experiment anyway?

~the man asked. So he had been a part of some experiment, but what did they do to me?...He could only wonder~

I assigned myself as the lab rat because I see potential in this, we need to find the cure for this or else everyone will be {static of some sort}. We need to find it now.

I know but don't go through with it...

~he then saw hmiself, he had a grin on his face and then it was gone just as he was about to say something and then it happened again.

The pain in his arm shot through him as if some powerfull was coursing through him. He let out a painfull yell.

If someone looked at his arm carefully, he could see it beginning to bulge and his veins started to appear under the skin. It kept going and he let out another painfull yell and then it was gone.

He looked at his arm and his arm was fine. This was beginning to frighten him. He looked at the door and took a gulp and pushed through it. It was dark and chairs were everywhere.~

What happened....

[Mad James]

The curtain was sturdy and thick. It was also all that saved him as he careened through the window in panic. Glass sprayed forwards and fell back as he stumbled under the weight of the now ripped curtain and rolled onto the floor. Mad James struggled against the weight, growing more angry and afraid and more exhausted every second. Eventually he found an opening and clawed his way out.

Behind him, the ground floor of a hospital... or, now he looked at it, perhaps a hotel... showed the way into the darkened room he'd just left. The breeze on his skin reminded him he was naked and he struggled to pull the curtain around his body, brushing off the glass as he went.

It was then he noticed something was strange, very strange, about this place. Nobody else seemed to be around. Mad James wandered down the street feeling both anxious and confused.

"Hello...?" he called. "Is anyone there?"

~as the door clattered against its hinges, he remembered the bell. He was standing right where he was. It was nighttime and when he noticed a girl come up to him, he smiled. It was like he was living the memory.

The woman started to speak to him and then he started to move, her voice started to drown out, just like his other memories. He noticed a woman serving a one handed man which caught his attention. This he imagined he had to keep in mind for he kept looking at me.

Then, at the table in the corner, he caught a glimpse of a man in a suit. He was talking to a woman in red.

Suddenly, as he looked at the red, it triggered somethuing in the back of his mind. He can feel as if something has takin over totally, you cannot control it.

Red has turned you into a monster which keep repeating thoughts.

Get rid of the woman in red. Get rid of her and we will be gone, gone forever

Gone forever. hm?

~he felt himself reach into his hjacket and pulled out a knife. He never carried it in the diner... Suddenly, he felt someone grab his shoulder and he reacts and when he looks at her again, her nose is bleeding, she looks over at the woman in red who looks back at them with glaring eyes.~

They both know too much, get rid of them, both .

~Then suddenly, he felt pain in his arm as he sat in the booth, it was overwhelming. He grabbed at it and let out a yell so loud, the glass near him broke and it rang out throughout the streets. It was so much pain, it knocked him unconscious but the pain and everything went away. Even the lump in his arm faded~

The German Guy

He grabbed at it and let out a yell so loud, the glass near him broke and it rang out throughout the streets.

I was getting tired of wandering the empty streets, never seeing a sign of anyone. Never hearing a sound that told me I was not alone.

He suddenly stiffened then ran off towards a welcome sound. A sound of a yell and glass breaking, but it was as welcome as a joyful greeting. Maybe now, he could get some clue as to who he was and why he was there.

the girl

The girl stiffened and spun around in her protectors arm.

"That came from back at Luna's' she turned looking at him with her full blue eyes.

This was getting surreal, she thought she could faintly hear voices in the distance also calling out for help. Or was she just imagining all of this? Was this some sort of dream she was just going to wake from..that when she woke she'd know who she was and laugh it off as bad dream and go back to her job as a librarian or school teacher or astronaut for all she knew.

Or was this something worse? What if she was dead and this was some sort of hotrrible puregatory? Lost forever in a city of night.

The girl looked back into her protectos eyes. No, it couldnt be. He was here, if she was punished she wouldnt have been so lucky to find this man.

" i think we should go back, just in case.Plus maybe it'll be dawn soon and we can make some sense of all this"

But she knew, somehow she KNEW the sun would never rise here.

The two made their way nervously back to Luna's, the lights were on as they left them. But there was a new comer.

He looke d haggard in the cafe, tired, almost crazed. He seemed slumped over a table in a booth.

The two crept cautiously into the bar.The door chime made a half ring when they entered. They both froze at the sound but the man didnt stir. They released their collective breaths and stepped toward the man.

He was unconscious, out like a light, clutching his left arm even in his passed out state.

"I know him.." the girl whipsered in fear

'It's him, the maniac..he tried to kill me and ..and Miss Brooks"

She could see themans grip tightened on the bat.

"But its okay..its not his fault..or was it?"

Burnt coffee filled the air with its scent. The coffe pot was broken on its stand.

The fallen

Slowly he dared to move his hands from his ears only to be greated by the deafening silence of this world he found himself stuck in.
He moved slowly, as if moving through water. He didn't dare move any faster for fear of the screaching sound returning.
He had just about straightened himself out on his side as he lay there on the ground when he heard it.
A scream! An earth shattering, anguished scream. Followed by what could only be the sound of glass shattering.
It startled him and he found himself up in a low crouching stance in a split-second. The palms of his hands resting flat on the ground in front of him, he found himself facing the direction the sound had come from, ready to spring into action at the first sign of trouble.
Where the hell had that reaction come from?
He recognised something in that scream. Pain. Emotional and physical pain. Having just experienced such a thing himself. Whoever had produced such a horrible sound had to have been in the most terrible agony. Then as suddenly as it had started, it stopped.
As the echos of the scream died away it hit him. That was not a sound made by him! Somebody else had made it! There was somebody else here! He wasn't alone!
He felt something stir inside him. A new emotion. Hope!
That new feeling was short-lived however as it found itself crushed under the heel of distrust and anger.
That somone probably knew what was going on. That someone probably had a part in what was happening.
Frowning in fury, the man rose to his full 6'6" and glared in the direction of the the sound. He was going to get to the bottom of this, come what may.

"You're not going to do that without some sort of ace up your sleeve, are you?" The rational part of his mind argued.

Growling in frustration at the injection of reason, he began to look around for something to use to tip the scales in his favour. For all he knew there might be an entire gang waiting for him just around the courner, ready to beat him with in an inch of his life.
Spotting something that looked like a cross between a sporting goods store and a hardware store he ran towards it. Finding it unlocked he entered it carefully and upon making sure it was indeed empty he started rumaging through the merchandice.
Fishing poles, fishing lures, crappy golf clubs and cheap badmiton rachets all went flying around the store as he searched for something sturdier to use as a weapon. Finally he decided on a canoe baddle. Taking a few experimental swings he walked around the store slowly trying to get the feel of it. He saw something out of the courner of his good eye as he walked past the glass display counter. He glanced at it before returning his sights to the paddle in his hands. Then he did a double take and froze.
There, on one of the display stands behind the glass in the counter, complete with leather sheathes, were a pair of small hunting knives. Their over-all length no more then 6 or 7 inches, he found himself entranced by them and his free hand smoothed over the glass that sepperated him from them.
He had no idea how long he stood there just marveling at the items before he snapped out of his daze. He had to have them! He just knew, he had to have them!
Bringing the but of the canoe paddle down on the glass pane in the counter, he grimaced slightly as the offending barrier shattered into a million pieces. Carefully lifting his treasure from their stands he marveled at the feel of them in his hands. They felt right. Like they belonged in his hands.
He was snapped back to reality when he was reminded of why he had been in here in the first place. The scream. He was here to find "an ace up his sleeve". Looking at the small knives in his hands he grinned.

"I think I just found my aces". His grin became allmost feral.

Putting the knives in their respective sheathes he stuffed one in each coat pocket and grabed the canoe paddle again.

"You can never be too carefull" He mumbled as he exited the store.

Looking around once, took off at a dead run in the direction the scream had come from.
He needed answers.
Someone else was here. That someone knew something about what was going on, he was sure of it. And that someone was going to tell him everthing he wanted to know. And then some.

[Mad James]

Mad James walked out into the street, bemused by the lack of activity. The place seemed... strange. He didn't know why, but then, that didn't matter. What mattered was that if there was nobody else there, he was safe. He continued onwards in silence.

[Tameka]

Tameka gathered the curtain around herself in fear. Where was she? What was she doing here? Why was she naked... apart from the curtain that was, but that was hardly clothes. God, if anyone saw her like this she would be in trouble.

There were some shops close by, but none she recognized. As she moved closer she saw one was a sporting goods store. Maybe there she could find some kind of outdoor wear, or tennis outfit or something at least. She couldn't wander round like this.

With a glance around the street to ascertain nobody had seen her she stepped out into the silent roadway and headed toward the store.

he took a careful step forward, bringing the bat up.

He tried to get a better look of him, see if he could judge his intentions. But finding no other signs of movement, he calmed a bit

The man with one hand took a seat at the counter, spinning the round seat so he could face the stranger and the front door..

The fallen

He was oblivious to everything around him as he ran. He could have run through a barier of barbed wire for all he knew. He wouldn't have noticed.
Then after a short run, he came upon a place he was sure was the origin of the scream he'd heard.

A greasy spoon five and dime, like something out of that print..avenue of broken dreams. The big neon sign with the crescent moon on top with LUNA written horizontally below it.

The window frames only seemed to contain fragments of glass in hap-hazard places and the ground in front was covered in shards of glass. His eyes narrowed. This was the place all right.
Taking a closer look without moving too close he noticed a flicker of movement inside. Taking a step back he squished himself up against the wall of the building he was standing next to. Manuvering himself around, ducking behind buildings or cars, so as to get the best view of the diner with out being noticed he kept close watch. He could see someone slumped over a table in a booth and someone else standing a few feet away. The standing person turned away from the slumped figure and seemed to focus on something else. Then a voice. He couldn't distinguish between the words but the voice, the voice was deffinately female. The pitch was too high for it to be male. But it looked like she was talking to someone..... or something deeper inside the diner, hidden from his view.

"So," his mind reasoned. "We have three people in there. One of them is female, one of them looks out cold, and the third..... The third is a mistery. I'm going to out on a limb and say he's probably male and probably armed. Hmm. Sounds reasonable enough."

Manuvering himself around more cars and ducking between a few buildings, to stay out of sight, he managed to place himself with his back against the wall right next to the front door to the diner. The scent of burnt coffey greeted him. The woman was talking again.

But its okay..its not his fault..or was it?

Her voice seemed full of insecurety. Like she really wasn't sure of the truthfullness of what she was saying. Maybe she was just like him. Stuck here without any memory of her life, her past, her reason for being her in this god forsaken world. Something about the insecurety in her voice made his heart ache for her. He was pretty sure that the woman probably didn't know any more then he did. That only left the oher two in the diner. One of them was apparently out cold, and the other..... The other remaned a mistery. But the woman seemed to trust him for some reason.
Slowly he pushed himself from the wall and rolled his shoulders. His left hand moved up and arranged his long straight hair so that it covered the left side of his face. Successfully covering his scar. He wasn't even aware he'd done it untill it was allready done. His mind raced. Why would he do something like that? Had he allways been self concious of his mangled features? Dismissing it for the moment, he left his hair covering his scar and grasping the canoe paddle a bit firmer he stepped up to the front door.

"Time for some answers." he thought.

The chime chirped happily as he pushed through the door and it startled him. His other hand snapped to the paddle and he took up a defencive stance holding his weapon ready to swing.
And was faced with a man with a baseball bat.
Their sights locked and they both stood there frozen in place, both poised to strike but neither moving.

It took Martin a minute to think it over, try to find if he knew anything about Luna's Diner, if that held a key. His memory, his sole memory kept going back and forth inside his brain. He held onto this one fragment of himself, tightly, as a child might his only posession.

It was the only part of him that was Martin inside this body.

He grabbed this woman's hand, and led her down the stairs, passed flights and flights of floors, all of them weaving together, matching at no end with made any difference.

They made it out to the lobby of the building. It didn't look like any specific building. It had parts of a hospital, parts of apartments, even others floors that held only secrets.

Stepping out to the dark night street, Mark looked up and then down the empty street.

"Where..."

But, he couldn't finish the sentence. He had hoped, maybe even prayed for someone, for people, something out here. But it was as empty as the inside. There was no one, no one who could help.

Not that he wanted anyone's help. They could be THEM. Anyone could be them. They are always them, always pretending not to be them, so no one confuses they with them.

Martin spun around, looking down one side, and the other. Both looked the same.

"That way," He pointed to the right, but wasn't certain. They had to go somewhere, and right was just as good as left.

The German Guy

Then after a short run, he came upon a place he was sure was the origin of the scream he'd heard.

I saw something new as I wandered the empty streets, a flash of movement. I froze to avoid discovery, then followed at, what I thought was, a safe distance. The figure in front of me ran without a sign of care, but then stopped outside of a cafe and moved cautiously.

I could see why, there was someone, multiple someones, inside the cafe. The name of the cafe, "Luna's", was displayed over the door, but it meant nothing to me.

I watched the man who had entered square off with one of the figures inside. I watched without moving, waiting to see what would happen.
