Does anyone else get them? The ones where you wake up and have to change clothes cause you are soaked?? Do women AND men get them? How does one make them stop?

Lately I've been sweating, tossing and turning. Just can't sleep for some reason.

Change in our weather (it's going to be 64 degrees in NYC today!!) may cause this (in the same apartment last night 2 of us were HOT and the other was COLD). I'm also starting to experience the flashes of menopause, so I can't tell if that's what's happening with my night sweats as well! Whew...

I get them too. Like someone dumped a gallon of water over me, every inch of me. Even my fingertips. Have to towel off and change the sheets. You should ask your doctor. Mine turned out to be nighttime seizures from my blood sugar dropping very very low. Other causes can be heart related. Not fun at all:mad:

Good luck!!!!!

Good luck!!!!!

As I have diabetes...that DOES happen at times...but the sweats are different than that.

Night Sweats

Cath!

Even though I'm only in my early 40s, I've been diagnosed as peri-menopausal. My hormones are started to fluctuate, even though it may be 5-10 years before I'm totally menopausal (oh jeez, watch out!) One of the symptoms is night sweats. My GYN prescribed low-dose birth control pills which has totally eliminated the night sweats. It might be time to see your gynocologist. No reason to suffer needlessly.

In other words Cat, you are getting old! Next thing you know, you will be hiding behind sunglasses, wearing a wig, to buy depends..:D

I am only 39...and have been going through this for about 6 months. Do you find that they are worse pre-menstrually? In the cancer clinic where I work. one of the side effects of treatment is night sweating. They prescribe Effexor (an antidepressant) to stop them...but I have been on Effexor for 3 years already and it doesn't help me at all!!

I've had them since I was 18! Sometimes total soakers, have to get up and towel off. By the way, what clothes? I don't like clothes when I'm sleeping, too restricting.

damn woman...quit teasing me! ;)

No way, it's much too fun.;)

Seriously, I have been menopausal since I was 29 years old. I don't take estrogen , as we have a strong family history of breast cancer, and I smoke. The night sweats do drive me crazy, my bed is always destroyed from pulling the covers on, then kicking them off constantly. Sleeping nude helps. ;)

Shit Cath, you weren't supposed to tell:p

Night Sweats? Do you mean when things get so "hot" that you soak the bed? If so, every night. Even in the nude!:D

I've had them as long as I can remember, and not just at night.. When I used to doze through some of my easier, and more boring high school classes I'd get them once in a while.. Fall asleep at the beginning of the period, wake up with a wet neck, a wet t-shirt, and thanking god that I usually wore black jeans that wouldn't show the dampness...

What's worse is the night terrors though.. Waking up in the middle of class screaming does NOT go over well with some teachers...

I am 42 & have been having menopausal symptoms for several years. Mine are worse right before my period, I talked to my doctor and at this point, there isn't much that can be done. The antidepressant that I take seems to aggravate them, but I have learned to sleep in light weight cotton pajamas & that seems to help. High stress situations seem to make them worse, so I try to spend at least 30 minutes each night just reading & undwinding from the stress of the day.
