I couldn't even finish reading Shooter's story 'A Private Eye Full' because of the stereotypes he threw in there. It's 2003 and writers still have Black people talking like we just escaped the plantation! Ugh. This is the same reason why I stopped reading those 3 dollar erotic novels. It's just hard to get excited when the author obviously has no respect. I know a lot of White guys get off on the Big Mean Negro bangin your Little Precious Innocent White Princess while Sexually Inept White Wimp watches in horror/ glee, but damn! Update your ideas! Some of these authors write like they never encountered a Black person ever. This is why I'm coming out of erotic retirement folks. Wow, this has turned into a press conference! I feel like Kobe Bryant. Without the rape case of course. Well now I have to dig out my disc of erotica and post some stuff up. well well well ... this should be interesting ... I'll be keeping my eye on the thread.

Just to throw my two cents into the story, I understand exactly what Mister Blaque is saying, although I think taking a hostile stance sets the stage for more mudslinging than understanding.

In my own writing, I tend to try to create a level playing field where anyone who reads it can imagine themselves in the situation. I myself am African American and weigh (yeah right, like I'm gonna tell ) The main character in my story is modeled after me, but I wrote it so that a guy turned on by blond blue eyed bombshells could enjoy it just as well.

The racial stereotypes tend to make me cringe as well ... but I understand that ya can't change the world all in one day, so I just try to steer clear of the Interracial love category. I mean let's be realistic ... literotica is all about fantasy, and people who submit stories under this category have fantasies about race ...

And when it comes down to it ... a stereotype comes from a bunch of people who have the same fantasy.

Paragraphs?

If it said your paragraphs were too big, cut them down to less than 350 words. It makes it easier to read on a screen (that's the only reason). The best way to actually format the paragraph is to just put an extra space between them so it looks like, well, this post or any other story you find in the archives.

If it said that your dialogue needs to be broken up, then just put one speaker per paragraph.

Okay, I've now read the story in question, and I liked it a lot. It's funny in a kind of Damon Runyan way - hardboiled private dick getting involved with scams and whoring, but not quite knowing what he's doing.

The racial stereotyping can be seen in two ways. The first is the early dialogue: this from a black couple is pretty awful if (as I was because of this thread) you were expecting the whole story to be full of stereotyped garbage:

“You stupid cunt bitch!” He shouted, slapping her. “You threw away a million bucks and a lot of fine pussy. I’ll kill you, you bitch!”

“You don’t need ‘dem white bitches,” The small woman cried, hitting him on the chest with ridiculously small fists. “You got me!”

“I ain’t got shit ‘cause you’re dead, you stupid bitch.” He had her lifted by the neck and had drawn back a meaty fist.

But to be honest, this is probably realistic in the extreme situation being depicted there. The characterization is good throughout the story, and there are no more cliches of violence or bad language. Another black man later comes across quite normally.

Then there's the fact that the white women are gasping for well-hung black studs. Well, this is the plot. It's specifically about a pornography, whoring, and blackmail racket, so the particular men involved need to have this appeal. That same other black man, coming incidentally into the plot later, again doesn't fit this stereotype.

Worth finishing.

Why not try visiting Columbia University, New York University., Fordham University, the U.N., the offices and studios of Dance Theatre Harlem, Alvin Ailey, the Whitney, the Metropolitan, MOMA, the ARTHUR SCHONBERG Institute, the administrative offices of the Harlem Boys Choir, Tribeca Film Center, or any corporate, mass media, or financial, educational, or cultural institution in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, or the Bronx; guess what? You will find a mass of men and women of colour who are highly educated, eloquent, talented, and imminently urbane, multi-cultural, and, dare one say, "civilized."

But I would suggest that they are all around you,anyway, on a day-to-day basis. Perhaps you just haven't bothered to look very hard.

By the way, I'm "White." My ex-fiancee is "Black"; we meet at university. She was studying German Romantic philosophy, and had previously danced with one of the great ballet companies in America. She earned her doctorate with honours, and like numerous others in her extended family, she now teaches at a distinguished university. But who cares about my experience vis-à-vis your "croyance bizarre"?

Based upon the documented complexities of African-American (African-British/French, etc.) communities, what with class, ethnicity, education, national, and even "racial" distinctions therein, in America, Britain, and France (try reading Sarah Lightfoot, William Frazer, William Julius Wilson, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., let alone Toni Morrison, Zora Neal Hurston, Michelle Wallace, et al), and my own, admittedly subjective experiences, I can only find your statements positively strange, and not in a particularly erotic or even adventurous way. Your views seem strange to me because they are so at odds with what actually is the case, the truth, the complexity of people, "Black,""White," of "Colour," or whatever.

But if such beliefs excite you---i.e., "most men of colour are not as eloquent as Ralphe Bunche" and are actually "of the street culture," well, who am I to get in the way of such kinky diversions and myths?

Second, let me remind you--FORCEFULLY--that ALL American Universities use various forms of affirmative action, and have so since the founding of Harvard over 200 years ago. But the recepients of such "affirmative action," were largely men of Anglo-Saxon, Protestant backgrounds, and largely from wealthy families. N.Y.U., in fact, was established for the multi-ethnic, middle-class sons of the merchant classes, who were not allowed by Columbia's WASP administration, to attend the British-founded, Ivy League school. (Columbia University--the most "liberal" of the Ivy League did not allow woman into its undergraduate college, Columbia College, until 1984---that's right, 1984; we really have no idea just how all those WASP male valedictorians prior to 1984 might have actually fared if they had to face competition from women, or African-Americans, Jews, Italian-Americans, etc., during much of the 20th century).

As amply documented by such sociologists and social historians as William Julius Wilson, Orlando Patterson, Michelle Wallace, James Messerschmidt, Jonathan Sokal, and Herbert Hill, and now the new scholarship exploring "White" construction, the dominant American classes ("White") have historically ensured their power through various forms of "affirmative action" (discriminatory covenants on housing; racially exclusive hiring practices; racially discriminatory lending practices; legal apartheid--"segregation"; racially discriminatory practices in state university funding, etc.).

Let us remind janenycgirl that one George Bush, Jr., for example, got into Yale University on a "C" average, attained only a "gentleman's C," which somehow landed him a spot at Harvard Graduate Business School. As a graduate of another Ivy League school, I can tell you as a fact that had Bush, Jr. NOT been a "Legacy" child---the classic "affirmative action" that still exists for the benefit dumb, arrogant, "White" upperclass children---Bush would have NEVER gotten into Yale, let alone Harvard Graduate school. If you have doubts, contact Columbia University, Yale, Harvard, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton and enquire as to what a "bottomline" G.P.A. is considered "acceptable" for becoming a candidate for matriculation. As someone who studied, tutored, taught, and graduated from an Ivy League school, I can attest that many, many "affirmative action baybees" (to quote Stephen Carter) I dealt with were "White" Legacy students. Academically, they were NOT qualified to attend, but their numbers were much higher than those "niggers," as you so artfully put it, who got in through what you term as "affirmative action." At my university, just over 3% of the student body matriculated through some form of affirmative action directed toward "Blacks"; yet, 7% of the student body were "minority."

But ever so tellingly, the university kept secret the number of "Legacy" students, although I have it on good authority that at least 15% of the "White" student body was comprised of Bush, Jr.'s compatriots--"Legacies." My collegues at N.Y.U. confirm that under their president Sexton's administration, the numbers are very similar.

Thus, your ugly attempt at humour and irony reveal but this humourous and ugly irony: your "affirmative action" slur conveys no truth about N.Y.U., or its African-American student body. But it reveals ever so much about your not-so-latent racism.

Again, one notes that "Stereotype" is NOT the same as "truth" or "reality," a distinction you are unwilling or unable to make.
