Vinny
The youngest in a family of seven (and the only girl), Vincenza Martinelli's mom had died birthing her and her dad worked a lot of hours, holding his daughter more than a little responsibe for the part she played in losing his Angela. As a result, she was left in the care of her brothers from the time she was born, quickly learning that she was better off blending in with the boys rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.
Always one of the boys, she climbed trees, played ball, fished, hunted and learned how to work on cars. Dirt was not her enemy but her friend, and it hid her well. The only female in Vo-Tech taking Automotive, Vinny worked hard to top the pimply-faced boys in her class. And she did it.
Getting a job wasn't as easy. No one wanted to hire a girl. No one except Tony. The tall chestnut haired mechanic shook her head and grinned when she heard the screech of the tires as Tony pulled out onto the road for a test drive. "Boys and their toys," she chuckled to herself, picking up the phone to call the sweet young thing that had broken her Daddy's car.
One ring. Two... Six. "Come on. Come on. I don't have all day here." Vinny sifted through the work orders that were clipped to the board behind her while she waited.
"Hello?"
"Took you long enough." She muttered under her breath in perfect Brooklynese. There were still two oil changes, a ring job, a muffler and the inevitable you've GOT to fix this for me today customer that was sure to turn up a half hour before quitting time with a four hour job left to go.
"Excuse me?" The voice sounded girlish and perky. Had to be the chica who had dropped the Charger off that morning.
Vinny wiped her hand off on the coveralls she was wearing, adding another greasy streak to the ones already there. "I'm calling from Tony's Garage. Your car is ready." She didn't wait for a reply before placing the phone back in its cradle. A girlie girl for sure, she snorted in disdain. She had neither the time nor the patience for women like that.
