NHL lockout

In all seriousness, unless they get this thing settled by no later than Thanksgiving (American) at the absolute latest, the NHL is pretty much done as a major spectator sport in the US.

Unlike other sports like the NBA, NHL relies heavily on its relatively small but comitted base of support. Everyone I've talked to says, if this isn't settled within a few weeks they are done with the league for good, they will NOT be back no matter how many "we're sorry" and "thanks for your support" they get from the league. Not this time.

Its a shame after hockey has slowly built back the support it lost last time. A lot of smart moves have been made (Winter Classic, Olympic participation, etc) and a lot of luck with popular teams in the finals for several years. The fans aren't going to forgive this time.

Yeah, I care. Not as much as I use to though. NHL is trying do the same things professional Football, Baseball, and Basketball have done. I do not see it happening for Hockey. Loyal fans yes, but hockey does not enjoy the same popularity and # of paying fans to support the cause.

They have not put a dent in deciding how to share the revenue between players and owners. Maybe some progress on the minor issues. Preseason has been cancelled and I am sure regular season will be cancelled or delayed until January or so.

What other sport has regular lockouts? Betman insists in taking the sport where no real Hockey fan really wants to go so what do you figure is going to happen eventually?
In answer to the original question I do not really much care at this point. If they can dump some of the teams in not-Hockey land and bring them back to Canada this league would seem much more credible.

Bingo!

You know, I love hockey. I am a huge Blueshirt fan. However, this will kill the NHL. If they are not playing by November 1st it will be too late. So, fuck it. I'm prepared to move on.

Is that the sport they play in Canada?

No, I don't miss it.

Hockey screwed itself by trying to expand into Florida, Texas, Argentina, and other places where Ice is an import.

The NHL, at 21,470,155 in total live attendance is second only to MLB.

Please don't start any more stupid threads. (i.e., don't start any more threads)

This proves my point, dipsh*t. A small committed base of support that attends games but far lower television ratings and merchandise sales than the other major sports. The casual fan will be lost if this lockout isn't settled.

And please go suffocate yourself in a pillow.

I love hockey, but I hate the NHL. Stupid officiating. Utter disrespect for their fan base. Mindless expansion. Dilution of the talent pool. Crappy on-ice product. Screw them. I watch the Olympics and college hockey and I'll be perfectly happy.
