There are only Americans. Full stop, period.

By framing the question of individual rights by tribe instead of the legal framework which declares everyone equal, all of these fights serve to divide rather than unite.

Systemic tribalism has been increased and as a result, the left created the opportunity for wrong minded people to re-introduce the Southern Strategy on a broader scale, electing an unfit person to the presidency.

My personal view is that the whole flag anthem thing is overused and overblown.

But as a public issue, the flag and anthem are important, play a role and have a place in American society.

Any faux dramatization/use of them is at best distasteful and at worst, divisive.

That goes for gaudy puckup truck redneck parades and football stadiums alike in my book.

A joint PR initiative talking about the greatness of America being rooted in freedom, security, prosperity and equality for all would be a game changer and a way forward.

He said he would prefer Kap to stand, and still does, but they compromised on kneeling to get his point across instead of sitting.

Imo, the effects have been worse in Europe: turning a blind eye to risks and crimes (cause Intersectionality), countries chopped and changed on religious lines, racism and bigotry being magnified in the process.
But unlike American Leftists, European Leftists don't attack their countries' shared culture and traditions to such an insane degree.

As you suggested, the appropriate way to fight injustice or racism is through unity and viewing them as out of norm incidents-. Not through villifying entire social groups.

Has anyone gone to a game of any kind to hear the national anthem sung. How did this get to be a thing in the first place? Think about this...

Everytime you tune into your favorite show they sang the anthem first? Wouldn't you start to say this is fucking annoying just let me watch the show. It's the same with sports. I agree with ESPN that says just fuck it. It has no matter to the game we are showing and now the politics have been inserted we will just pass.

It was supposed to be a unifying event for Americans--a reminder to opposing sports team fans that it's just a game and the unifying elements of those who came to the game was that most of them with Americans (with a look to Europe, where team fans go to war and often have to be trapped in cages in stands to keep from murdering each other--yes, I've gone to these games in Europe). Using it to take a knee was/is, yes, a rent in that curtain of unity, a rent that Donald Trump has coaxed into a big tear. The role too of the U.S. president has traditionally been a "unifier" of as many Americans as possible. Yet another tradition Donald Trump is shitting on.
