Just logged onto AOL and on the welcome page w/ the
day's news, and lo and behold, Michael Skakel has been
found guilty of the murder of Martha Moxley.

LET THE DISCUSSION AND DEBATE ROLL!

Extensive coverage found at www.courttv.com

So does anyone else think he is guilty? I sure do.. Come on he put himself at the crime scene "masterbating"

I'm watching Dateline now....they are doing a story on it...

I suppose I was surprised by the conviction, if only because so much time had elapsed. I don't have any other real feelings about his guilt or innocence, although I understand Skakel has changed his story along the line and people who are innocent tend not to do that.

Yea..........he's also "confessed" to some people over the
years about the murder, such as when he was at Elan.

I'm curious as to the outcome of this case if he had not been a "Kennedy", would they have arrested him sooner or not at all?
Did the fact that he is a member of such a famous family keep the case open or did it slow down the prosecution?

the case was on the backburner for years.......plus
considering he was from a famous family (and living in
such an affluent area) kept him free for years........

I'm surprised they re-arrested him and took the case to trial at all.

The guilty verdict should have come down long ago.
At least now the Moxley family has some closure.

Seriously, he killed the girl with a golf club...she was 15...who would kill a 15 year old girl...it just makes my heart weep:(

Will he be sentenced according to todays laws or the laws that were in effect at the time of the crime?

i know he'll be sentenced as per the charge...as an adult. guilty? probably. would i have convicted him? based on what little i know, no.

I don't know why, but I feel a bit sorry for him. It's deplorable what he did (if it's proven in a court of law he did...blah blah), but he was only 15 and should be held accountable in a juvenile court.

he carried it aroud for over twenty years as a free adult. besides, fifteen is old enough to know you don't kill someone.

mmm, but still, sometimes emotions run high and a person loses control. How could he have come forward?...maybe his family advised him to keep silent 'till the death" for fear of thwarting the name.

you are absolutly right. sometimes emotions run high and people lose control...some people call that murder.

2nd degree or manslaughter.

Ok, fuck I'm not defending a murderer here (and now I'm paranoid you think I'm one - lol), I just think some compassion is in order. And he shouldn't be the scapegoat for the entire family's sins.

Well i have thought he had did it for a year or so now. Unfortunately Mark Furman's book about the case which i read in criminal justice class made me investigate the story. Like i said, why would he change his story so he could be place at the scene of the crime? Easy he was scared someone saw him. People ask about the DNA, well it was 1975 so it really wasn't an issue. Plus the Greenwich authorites fucked up the crime scene. The body laid in the grass for about a whole day. the coroner didn't see it til post riger mortus (sp) which basicly means a lot of the information the corpse holds (ie. time of death) was gone. I am glad the family got justice. If skakel wasn't related to a kennedy then maybe it wouldn't be as much publicity. But everyday there is annother book written about some unsolved murder no matter how famous or infamous the person was. So it is bringing all these murders into public light. which is all good to me. I really think that the jurors took their time and made sure that they wern't doing it to please Dorthy Moxley or piss off the kennedys. At least i will think that until proved otherwise.

He pretty much convicted himself, didn't he?
They didn't really have much evidence against him, but the stories he told changed so often and were unbelievable.

I don't know if I'd call him a Kennedy. I think his aunt is married to a Kennedy or something. That doesn't make him one.

good, now maybe for his sentence the moxely family should beat him with a golf club. at least there's one less crime that's gone unsolved and unprosecuted.

Compassion? What if it were your sister?
