Hello. A newbie to ORP/SRP here. I hope this is the correct place to post this question. If not, please redirect me.

My writing partner StackeyDreams and I are new to ORP/SRP. We both come here from having picture threads on the AmPics forum. We are both exhibitionist, who also love to write. On our threads in the AmPic forum, we are accustom to feedback on our threads. As exhibitionists, we need feedback.

Over here in SRP land, it appears that the posting of feedback within the story thread is not at all expected or welcomed.

So my question is - How do the writers get feedback on their stories? PMs? Other threads (if so, where?). Or do people just not get feedback over here?

Thank you.

Feedback on story writing is not something that happens often. THis is because it is considered that the story is primarily for the enjoyment of the participants, not necessarily the readers. But having said this, I have received PMs on some of the stories I've written.

It is considered rude to post within someone's story thread, as they are considered to be reserved for the participants. But my suggestion is that if you want feedback, you or your co-writer could post a little note or separate post within your own story thread to invite readers to send PMs, or you could even create an OOC (Out of Character) thread specifically for feedback, and invite readers to post there.

There are a couple of threads here in the Lounge area where people post cudos about their favorite role play stories, and recognize those stories and authors.

I usually get feedback via PM. We also have an Appreciation thread and you're quite correct, feedback within a thread is a given no-no, because it interrupts the flow of your thread. Not everyone gets feedback but you can ask for it by stating somewhere in your sig tag that feedback is welcomed. Many of us write for the joy of writing, not for the feedback though feedback is always appreciated.

I would just add to mine and Cait's responses above by saying that the absolute best positive feedback is when your writing attracts people who want to write something with you. But it can be a double edged sword, in that you may soon find your story load so full that you have to turn people away. That's never easy, and I always have a bad feeling when I have to do it. Or worse, to have to let some stories lapse because you just can't keep up with all of them.

Annisthyrienne & DarkWarrioress:

Thank you both for your replies. One thing we like about the AmPics is the sense of community, people supporting other people. These two quick and well spoken replies tells me that there is such a community here, it is just different, not as visible.

I need to consider the options. I don't expect many kudos. I am not an experienced writer. I would like to know what I am doing right, and how my writing can be improved. Also interested in ideas about story line development and adding "richness" to our story.

Thanks again for the responses.

If you want specific constructive critiques or advice, it's probably something you will have to ask for, as many people, perhaps most, will not want to simply make such a comment uninvited. Find someone who's writing you greatly admire and ask them if they'd read your work and comment on it.

Or, if you want spontaneous commentary, participate in the monthly writing challenge that Britwitch posts here in the lounge.

Hello and welcome!

The advice from the ladies already given is absolutely brilliant!
I'd also add that coming into the Lounge and posting/participating in the various community threads here will help.

If people see you're new (with a handy dandy mention in your sig of how much feedback is appreciated), they'll get curious and click on the story links in your sig, et voila, I'm sure you'll get feedback in no time!

Once again, welcome and happy writing!

Another thing I'll add is that, for a sense of community, that's basically what the Lounge area is. A lot of what we do here is mostly about interacting with each other. We talk about our writing here intermittently-more often, we're chatting about idle things, or flirting amongst ourselves. Check out The Lounge FAQ. I'm often reading the threads and writings of my fellow Loungers, and occasionally offer feedback to them. So this is where a lot of writers do like to interact.

Welcome, and good luck!

Thank you Britwitch, Noon_Shadow, and Annisthyrienne (again).

Your responses make me feel more welcomed here. I am pleased with what I am learning about the community here. And I intend to spend more time in the Lounge.

It also appears that changes in my Sig line are in order. May be difficult to have a Sig line that works well in both forums, but I will see what I can do.

Also my AV which works well in the AmPics forum does not portray me as a writer over here. May need to switch to a more neutral AV.

Thanks again for all the replies. I hope everyone is having a great week.

Welcome to the Lounge! Just dropping by to say that you don't need to change your AV or sig - use whatever you feel comfortable with. It's not necessarily so much what portrays you as a writer: some people put links to their stories or lounge threads, pictures that catch their eye, or quotes and song lyrics. There's no shortage of options, so don't worry about changing it - unless you want to, of course! Happy writing.

Thank you very much. I am feeling very welcomed here.

I have changed my AV, but I do this periodically anyway. This pic of me in a chair has been used before as my AV. A bit artsy, and somewhat naughty.

And I only do what I feel comfortable doing. If you visit my AmPic thread, you will see that I am very comfortable showing quite a bit. :)

I am just trying to fit in to this new (to me) forum. Just loving all my experience here on Literotica.

Then post in some other threads in the lounge, doll!
We can be an exclusive bunch until we are comfortable sometimes, but we love new people who can keep up and stick around!

Also, my tip? Write with people who challenge you to improve your writing. If they are talented, they will push for that same level of posting from you. It's how I've improved.

I agree with everything that was said, Just adding, that feedback is rare thing in this SRP/ORP business. So if you do want feedback, be friendly and courteous to your cowriters (goes without question right) and to other writers as potential cowriters. Also you may want to start an idea thread here in the lounge. There you can put a general synopsis and links to your threads and ideas for threads you'd like to do given time or the right cowriter. And make it known you encourage feedback on them all.

But mostly don't be afraid to make your own way. You've read stories, watched TV shows and movies....you have the instincts of writing within you. All you have to do is listen and trust them sometimes. That right there is the key to writing to the best of your ability listening and trusting your own instincts and judgment. Otherwise you'd always be striving and usually feeling like you've failed to meet a standard others have set rather than a standard you make for yourself.
