Ok so i've NEVER written an erotic story before, but have read a lot and have been thinking about writing a story occasionaly for a while.

The way i look at it i can write my stories in two ways, either it can be a short, sex filled story, or a longer one that has more plot to it as im thinking about doing a series of stories with the one storyline.

I was just wondering if people actually like reading erotic stories with an ongoing plot to it, it'll still have plenty of sex in it but it won't completely dominate the story, or do you prefer just a short, simple fuck fest story?

I know everyone's different, but im just sorta trying to cauge what the majority prefer!

I think you'll probably find that folks in the AH like some sex with their story, vs. some story with their sex.

But, I could be wrong. ;)

Hmmm. Now there is a genuinely tough question to answer!

My two cents are thrown on the side of "depends on the genre." Some of the genres on Lit seem to lean more heavily to story - "Nonhuman" often goes that way, and "Science Fiction/Fantasy." Others, like "Incest" and "Anal," more often seem to cater to the short sex scene approach. Either, I think, can be written very well; the good news is that on a site as big as Lit, either approach gets a pretty good reading. Try some of each, is my advice, and see what you enjoy writing!

I like stories with a plot and depth, but for the first time out you might want to keep it short and simple. Also if your first story is multi-chapter AND brilliant, I'd have to resent you. ;)

The best advice is always to write what you would enjoy writing the most, but a multi-chapter is setting the bar very high for the first attempt. Perhaps an open ended story which could be expanded?

My series "Montana Summer" started out as sex with a bit of a story, and is now a story with a bit of sex, and has done really well. I get about 30 comments about the plot of the story to every 1 comment about the sex...and this is from the Incest/Taboo readers...

My advice, for what it's worth....Start simple and work your way up...

Thanks for the replies!

Yeah i was thinking doing a multi-chapter might be a bit ambitious for someone who hasn't written a story, good that thats been clarified now.

As far as the genre goes, the story will be very similar to what i have mentioned in my other thread "story classification" so either an "erotic coupling" story or "incest/taboo" story, although it will be step-sister taboo and not blood taboo.

Im gonna take your advice, stort story but will leave open the possibility for expansion. :)

Hello curious Jack :) I like a good story, simple as that. I'll read a good story if it has sex in it or not!

Here's my two cents worth. Write what you feel comfortable with. Of all things I started writing 5 years ago with a full length straight novel (currently being rewritten at 95k words). It was a first person story written from the perspective of a mid twenties Irish rock singer in an abusive relationship and a cocaine habit. A quick look at my Avatar will show you that I'm none of those things.

I soon found how hard it is, but started writing short stories from the female point of view in order to get some practice. Erotic shorts followed for a similar reason, the heroine almost throws herself at the male lead because she knows their time together is likely to be short.

I'm not suggesting that you should do the same, every writer has to find what's best for them. I remember reading that you have to write a million words before you get to be any good, and unless you have an exceptional talent, I wouldn't argue with that. The important thing is to enjoy what you're doing. I'm working on a multi chapter story at the moment, as well as rewriting the novel and finishing my Na No story, which again should end up somewhere around the 100k mark.

Finally, hang around here a while, AH has some great talents and some lovely people. There's always someone to talk to and give you feedback on any of your storylines.

Give it a try, and good luck.

Chris

I've read that as well. How will I know when I reach it? Will there be a tiara involved? Will I be inducted into a secret society? Will there be a special handshake?
