Shaken but we're ok. Minimal damage in our area. Tsunami warning remains but most in possible danger have gone to higher ground. More than likely they're just being overly cautious. Better to be safe just in case.

Sadly a couple of people lost their lives and some damage.

It was reasonably long and quite disconcerting.

Yes but a lot more damage in the south Island and sadly Christchurch have been hit the hardest again. This is sadly on going for them after the last big earthquake they had.

I live in the north island of NZ, just over 500km from the epicentre. My house shook enough to knock items off shelves and to give me the wildest 2 minute ride I've had in bed by myself, ever. It was the longest and most violent earthquake I have ever experienced.

Never experienced an earthquake. Well not really. We get them on occasion but the only time I ever noticed was because we were working in a guy's basement who fixed old clocks. And they all started to work. We thought a big truck had gone by maybe. Did not actually feel anything. The news that night said there was a 3.0 quake.

Worse was when we were sitting in an eatery with family, and a not-too-distant quake hit, shaking the adjacent big plate-glass window, threatening to shatter on us. We jumped up and dashed away, dodging objects falling from tables and shelves. Definitely an unsettling feeling, yes.
