Pop Pop Pop Musik

Growing up with the pop music explosion of the 60s and 70s was a magical time, a real mountain-sea change that fundamentally and irrevocably changed our music landscape forever and it is lightening in a bottle that people are still trying to recreate, but cannot. In the decades since the only one thing that has really managed to stand out is almost an, Oh Shit, how the hell did this happen? moment, known as Taylor Swift.

Now, I’m not putting her down, she is one cute little pop-tart, but really, why has everything since been nothing but a pale imitation that tends towards cringe and grunge?

Is music just culture looking into a mirror? A reflection of who, and where, we are?

You won't hear Jimmy in an elevator, then again, who knows who he sold his music library to...

Musak maybe? If your elevator drops precipitously, do you get Dazed and Confused?

Katy Perry? Kelly Clarkson? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...

The OP’s little green misogynistic monster is showing.

🙄

BTW - Katy Perry just sold her catalogue for $250 million.

Have a nice day!!!

👍

🤣

You should see someone about your issues which you feel the compulsion to put on display in thread after thread...

Are you really this nasty and small-minded in real life?

Many Litsters avoid places like biker bars where the wrong "quip" can earn the Death Penalty for teeth.

“Biker bar" by definition implies a place with mostly Bikers.

Iv’e known Bikers, Outlaws to be precise, who were downright polite and deferential to an Olympic style wrestler / carpet layer / bouncer / law enforcement adjacent forensic psyche staff like myself, when they weren’t in their "Biker bar". with unlimited backup. or weren’t packing a weapon.

Weird…

Obviously, you don't listen to alternative rock.

Pop/rock music shot its load, got old, and retired. Rap could last much longer, since it can be done without expensive instruments.

I think Rap has a limited audience. Then again, so did rock in its inception, so who knows? I only play a music critic, I'm no expert. The only music I can make is on a clarinet. It used to be cool, but I was born at the tail end of that particular paradigm.

The Hip-Hop/Rap genre convinced me that country music isn't all that bad. Then again, it's no longer Hank Williams Sr., more like pop 70s-80s rock. The Muzak stuff you would hear in an elevator. So I listen to a lot more country music these days.

They tend to stay in their safe zones.

Lit is a safe zone where they are not compelled by the polite bounds of society to suppress their true nature.

I don't know if such hate and bitterness is nature or nurture, but I suspect that nature left them so ill-equipped to adapt socially without the extreme duress of self-suppression in expression that is has become a matter of retreating to alternative societal realities that causes the animosity of those more free to express themselves having a traditional base of mores and customs to build upon.

Then they discovered the internet and the suppressed feelings and attitudes became, I can't be me, so I piss on thee!
