New York Bill Would Let the State Put People in Detention if Deemed a 'Significant Threat to Public Health'

What could go wrong?

The bill's language is noticeably vague in defining the parameters around disease type, leaving the government wide latitude in conducting its risk analysis. Should it pass, Gov. Andrew Cuomo would be the first state leader to have that power at his disposal. The two-term Democrat has navigated the COVID-19 pandemic with an array of inflexible regulations, from what food bars can serve if they'd like to stay open to how hospitals are allowed to vaccinate New Yorkers.

After reading through it, it is vague in detailing disease types. It would be impossible to detail every disease that would require detention of a carrier. The appearance of the Corvid virus is a good example. No one had any idea what impact it was going to have or how transmittable it was going to be, so how could it be included on al ist of transmissible diseases? It's not so vague in the why, how and wherefore of those being detained because they pose an infection threat to the general populous.

The detention of spreaders for a finite and specific purpose and time (until they test negative) I have no problem with. There's plenty of historical reasons to do so. Think Typhoid Mary.

The problem I have with it is the authority to detain people lays in one set of hands, the Governor. I'm always nervous when one person has such authority. It's way to easy to abuse such power.

And that's what happens when mentally defective people demonstrate the psychopathic actions of flouting health and safety mandates during a pandemic in the name of freedumb.

I imagine in the not too distant future, an even deadlier pathogen will appear and those same Creepimg Charlie "liberals" will continue to demand that others respect their right to infect.

Maybe if Trump had shown some patriotism and set an example of how to behave during a pandemic, it wouldn't have necessitated these kinds of enforced health and safety measures

The people get the government they deserve.

They need to "detain" people not wearing masks.

More likely for refusing to be vaccinated or to isolate when they have Covid.

My right to 'freedom' means I can infect and kill dozens...

IF people thought that the power would not be missed used or the person welding it had decent supervision and the people recourse to abuses it would be if not well received, than tolerated without what is going to happen when some Jackass starts rounding up people just because the can.

This country is in NO condition for that kind of crap.

We have had adverse reaction to the UK polixe enforcing the current lockdown. Some forces have been saying that although you can exercise outside, you can't drive to a park or open space to do so.

You have to stay close to where you live or you could be fined.
