think its my 4th or is it 5th
been a long week and the neighbours were partying till well past stupid oclock.
am sure there are dead things that have faster synaptic response times than I do.
at what saturation level does caffeine stop working

I'll hit that level later. Working nights so pretty much fuelled by it.

Once you get into it it's not too bad. The problem is that by that time you've either swinging from nights to days or vice versa or finishing 🙁

I do week of nights, week of days, week standby and 2 weeks off (standby is on call), so essentially 3 weeks off

No, it's not a bad routine. Takes a bit of long term planning for social events and you doo miss a few spontaneous things but good on the whole

I’ll eat them but only as a last resort. A bit like the coffee sweets that got removed from Quality Street.

Blasphemy!!! Always go for the coffee ones first
I love the coffee ones too and trying to find them in Revels is a right pain, way too much disappointment. Thornton's aren't the same anymore either :( Iceland had nice ones in last Xmas. I stocked up, with the best of intentions but failed miserably on the rationing front. Resisting temptation is not my strong point lol

For many years, I 'owned' Central London. I could have drawn you a detailed map of 'my domain', from Canary Wharf to Shepherd's Bush, from the river up to Hampstead. And then I became a country boy again.

The other day, I went up to The Smoke for a visit. Gosh, it has changed. Covid, I guess. Among other things.

I think I preferred it the way that it used to be. Or am I just getting old?

I worked in the City for a number of years. Knew it like the back of my hand, even the short-cuts through office buildings to get from one place to another. I went recently and didn't recognise the place.

My father was born in the City of London. His family home was demolished after bomb damage from a Zeppelin bomb in 1915. He started work at St Martin's le Grand, later transferring to the Central Telegraph Office (destroyed by bombing in 1940) long after he had moved on.

He was a Freeman of the City of London and in his later years (80s) an Official Guide to the City. His walking tours, mainly for Japanese bank employees, were famous. His 'short' walk was 14 miles, starting by climbing the Monument and finishing by climbing up to the cross on the top of St Pauls - not generally possible for the public.

His long walks were 27 miles, including Greenwich, Docklands, and Bermondsey. The Japanese considered his long walk the same as a climb up Mount Fuji.
Until he stopped giving his walks in his early 90s he knew all the current changes. In the 1980s one of his nephews by marriage was a City Alderman and Sherriff of the City of London.
