I'm not sure if there is an appropriate place for introductions. If there is, let me know and I will post the required information there.

To get back on subject, I have a few ideas for stories of a more erotic nature. Since I'm lacking in writing experience, I thought it would be best to write a story that mirrors my life in many respects. Perhaps through this manner the characters would be more believable and the situations more plausible.

Has anyone else attempted this and met with success? If so, how were you able to convey the more complicated and at times, regretful aspects of your life in good taste?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you think that a story modeled after the author's life is a bad idea (resembling narcissism and such), then I will thank you in advance and try to form a more original idea.

I don't think it's narcistic. I have yet to really try this though I have barrowed moments of my own life and altered them a bit in my stories. Just have faith in yourself and try. It takes practice and a willingness to learn from your mistakes to be a good writer.

Absolutely nothing wrong with modeling your stories after your own life. They say you should write what you know. Just about everything Hemingway ever wrote was thinly veiled autobiographical material......Carney

Experiences Shared equals good story Line

Just make sure people you write about cannot be identified. Its not a good idea to use your home town as the location. Change the names twist the story so it comes out much better or a lot worse. Make it over the top not boring vanilla.

Go ahead write the water is reasonable warm. If your style is crap you will be told!

A warning - there are trolls out there who will tell you that anyway.

They come to Lit and read stories in a particular genre (eg incest, or non-consent) and then send comments to the author saying that (s)he should be hanged, drawn and quartered for writing in that genre.

Ignore them.

I have a couple stories that reflect real life situations. The only fictional part of them are perhaps facts that would deal with what was said, as these events occured over 13 years ago.

I'd say write what you want, whether it be real life or fantasy. Lord knows I'm not a Vampiress, or running around having lesbian sex with all the women in my stories, nor have I ever.

They do say, write what you know, but also let your imagination soar and try to write what you don't know. . .Take your time and come at the story from all angles, don't just focus on the given, but remember everything is an element in a story, from the lighting, to the temperature, or the wind blowing through the trees. Paint a picture, it is hard when your colors are black and white, your job is to make them come to life.

Good luck and have fun.:)
