So how does one write a new sig?
|
I'm sure I knew once, since I had one and dropped it; but
today I searched my options and such and couldn't see a
place for writing a sig.
|
Okay, I'm not too swift on these deals, but how do
create a sig on this board?

Oops. Clicked the wrong blue thingie.

Go to control panel. The sig section is just a little down the page.

New siggie...

Go to Control Panel (UserCP at the top of the page), click on 'Edit Profile' , go down to the box for 'signature' and fill up anything you want to. That's it. It's changed!

-DP.

Sig lines use HTML.

<A HREF="http://www.YourURLHere.com" target="_blank">Whatever you want to show up on the page as a link</A>

The "target" part makes the link open up in a new browser window and is optional.

And I can't see sig lines, so I really have no idea if you'll even find this information remotely useful or not. For some odd reason I felt moved to share... huhm.

Thanks to everyone who replied.
Soe things I learned -- don't know how clearly this applies
to others; I use an old browser = Lynx.
1) If you go to "profile" from the control panel, you'll
be able to change your sig.
2) There is at least one other place which offers a jump
labeled "profile." It jumps to another page, and you can't
change your sig there.
3) Once you change your sig, you'll get a note that you
changed your e-mail address. Even if you left it the same,
it is on the same "profile" page. You have to do something
(trivial) to show that you have received the e-mail, and
-- consequently -- that the address you gave them is
accurate.
Thanks again for all the info, especially KM's note about
HTML. I knew that once; I just don't use HTML that often.

On the HTML part, what KM said is true, but you don't need all of that to make a link work on this site. This forum will take care of the technical stuff for you.

If you want a link in your signature line to a web page, all you need is the address of the page (like this -> www.example.com) and surround it with the initials url in front of the www and /url at the end. Be sure to put these url things in square brackets. [these things]. Be sure the one with the forward slash / is at the back of the address. Make the whole thing one word (no spaces) and it will look great. You can also go to the vB code help area (linked just to the left of this retangle sig box) for info on making your links fancier, if you want.

And, if you have problems, let me know. I love this kind of thing.

vB code doesn't work in sig lines. You have to use HTML.

Sorry, but I am using vB code. They both will work, but the vB code is easier for the non computer person to understand.
