New Research Has Identified the Most (and Least) Effective Face Masks for Coronavirus

Here’s what they discovered: Loosely folded face masks and bandana-style covering reduced the distance that droplets traveled by 1/8 or one half of what it would be for an uncovered cough. Well-fitted face masks with multiple layers of quilting fabric and cone-style masks were the most effective. Droplets only traveled about 8 inches with the cone-style masks, and 2.5 inches with a quilted mask. By comparison, they traveled more than a foot with a folded handkerchief and greater than 3 feet, 7 inches with a bandana made of T-shirt material.

and that's with coughs and sneezes... even greater efficacy against droplets expelled just through breathing/speaking.

but the point is made: wear a mask (ANY mask)=reduce the spread.

Masks are now "more" effective against smaller, more dangerous, aerosolized particulates than larger water droplets.

thor posted a link in March - office depots in certain parts of America were still selling face masks in bulk supply when other regions were starting to experience shortages.
And even after hoarders and speculators cleaned up THOSE supplies, Trump was still refusing to invoke the Defense Production Act.

In Australia too- authorities failed to foresee and plan for shortage, despite stocks lost in bushfires and the evidence that Chinese business employees were buying tons of PPE's from pharmacies and warehousez.

Then you have similar stories from UK and France.

It's jaw dropping, the level of incompetence and lack of out of the box thinking from our Elites.
 
There is some interesting data that indicates that the unusually very low rates of infection among women in UAE and Saudi Arabia is because they wear the Burka as a matter of course outside their homes.

although it seems to me
our factories geared up and changed production
in a very short order to get masks produced domestically*

Government would still be holding meetings and hearings on where to make them
You have to do everything humanly possible for the voters
