Any imaginative writers want to try this one?

~ an alternate world where marriage is done by purchase. The Protagonist is especially young, shy, inexperienced. But his father is dying, he is the heir, but tradition demands he be married before inheriting. Add an evil uncle hungry to take over the lands (he's always resented being the second son).

But that's all back story, as P is confronted by the question at the Bridal Bazzar : "New or Used?"

which does he chose? the fully warranteed virgin, or the previously owned trade in, which might have some milage but is certified fit and proven reliable?

Interesting thought. I'd pick the trade-in. At least she wouldn't be new to sex.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea to bring up, but you sorta described things in the old west. Especially during the move west, if the wife dies, well then you just grab a catalogue and mail off a payment and sent her a letter saying where to go.

Hmmm, actually I'm not sure if she got a letter from him first or not. I do know mail order brides were a rather commonplace occurence until 1890 I think, probably later.

You know what's funny though, there wasn't a mail order husband, still isn't unless you count personals. So maybe someone should do a mail order husband thing instead.

The first thing I thought of was "I wonder how the return polosy would work?"

Obviously a virgin couldn't go back to being a new modle if she was returned. So that would make her a used modle, but if she was a return then she's probably not as desirable as one that was just traded in for a different modle. A return would sugest that there was something wrong with her at the very begining where a trade in would have been kept for some sort of length of time.

And what about a "try it before you buy it" kinda thing?

So is this sexual slavery or some sort of business arrangement (long term prostitution)? Does the woman have any say in the purchase, does she have any rights in return? Say if the husband's income falls below a certain level then she can have the contract voided? Are all sales final and legally binding until death?

as I originally conceived it,, it would become a standard marriage, but anyone iswelcome to develop the idea how they wish.

In the name of sexual equality, you could have both potential wives and husbands for sale, in various makes and models (do you like them tall? Short? Curvey? Slim? Redhead, blonde or brunette? Straight, Homosexual, or a "Convertible"?)

Maybe have the buying/selling of spouses be a voluntary thing, perhaps if someone falls on hard times, they might put themselves up for sale and they get a percentage of their sell price (and if the guy pays in monthly payments, she would get a check every month with her cut).

Ooh, I just thought of some more here, the woman lists her goals, needs, abilities, etc. and any husband is required to help support her towards these goals (ie: if she wants to be a teacher, he has to help pay for her school, if she wants to raise a child, he has to help her with all the stuff that entails too). If the husband doesn't come through with his end of the deal, the contract can be nullified with penalties leveled if necessary. This would work even with the genders switched of course.

This way, in addition to being a safety net for those on hard times, this could also be seen as a sort of aprenticeship or debutanteship or something, with the parents helping prepare the child through their teenage years to go "On the market" and find someone who will take responsibility for them and care for them during part (or possibly all, if it suits them) of their adult life.

Once the contract expires, the couple would then decide if they want to stay together (as a live-in couple or right-out married) or go their seperate ways, or maybe even persue a new contract together.

OK, then there is always the woman who puts herself on the market because her life goal is to get gangbanged as thouroughly as possible? Thus, the husband's responsibility is to find as many men (and women) as possible to sate meet her needs?

Sounds like the old serial age controlled marriage. 5-25 assigned to a 45-65 y o to learn about life, including sexual techniques (after 18th birthday natch). 25-45 married to a 25-45 y o to breed. 45-65 assigned a 5-25 to teach. 65+ with another 65+ (own choice) for a happy retirement.
