New Milestones Thread

If only I knew... I would have asked for Cthulhu. :p
Don't know about him, but Cunt-Thuga, my lust filled great old one I created for a story is about to hit lit soon.

I told my wife that name and she said "That's either the dumbest thing ever, or brilliant. I'll have to see the story to decide."

Very supportive she is.

I finally wrote a word based palindrome prose - 1 hour of creative churning

Clever words, composed silence;
silence composed, words clever.
A palindrome is the same in both directions. For example:

"Drab as a fool, as aloof as a bard."

You are referring to a letter based palindrome (easily googled). I wrote a word based palindrome. The "sentence" reads the same in both directions.

They Might Be Giants has a song called "I, Palindrome, I" that was my first introduction to word-based palindromes (sometimes called palingrams or 'word-unit palindromes'). From the lyrics:

"Son, I am able," she said, "though you scare me."
"Watch," said I.
"Beloved," I said, "watch me scare you, though."
Said she, "Able am I, son."

And now back to your regularly scheduled milestones...

Pride is getting a roast beef cooked to exactly 135 degrees and achieving a great sear. (For sandwiches tomorrow. Also deglazed the pan with some red wine and broth and have the slices soaking up all that flavor overnight.)

I've never managed this before. It always ends up between 125 and 145 after resting even when I pull it at the same temp. This one settled exactly where I wanted it. (And yes, I finish cooking the 125 and grumble about it.)

I've gone more than a week without forcing myself to write.
I remember thinking if I had a day without writing even a few paragraphs it was some kind of sin.

The last year or so most of my writing is now on the weekends. If it's not there, I don't care. Whether that means I'm winding down or have just moved on from obsession to just letting it come naturally, I don't know.

But I'm not spending any time worrying over it.

I just hit Publish on a 15K word story, my longest here so far by more than a thousand. Not that that's long for some people, but it is for me. And for that matter, I realize length doesn't correlate to quality, but it does have some relation to complexity, and this was definitely harder than I'm used to.

I'm tempted to rest on my laurels a bit and/or get started on the next couple in the series, both definitely simpler than this one. However, I've barely started my Halloween story, so that's somewhat urgent. Oh well.

I wouldn't describe this as worrying about it, though, or forcing myself. Writing is still just for fun, and still an avenue for exploring new things. It's just that there's a little more timeliness about the previous and next bits of it.

I know this is a minor milestone but I thought I'd share it anyway as I'm pleased about it (and this seems to be the most appropriate thread) -- I just had one of my stories reach a new high for favorites on it, 13. Hopefully that number will continue to increase :)

Funny thing is, that's exactly how many favorites my most favorited story has. XD

Oh my gosh! A story I just hit publish on a few days ago (It Begins: Beat Me to Feel Better) somehow got published overnight last night and already is "Hot" in my category! It's my first ever H and I honestly thought I'd never get one.

I...can't really believe it because I don't think I'm a good writer at all but like, I guess at least this story what the BDSM crowd is looking for? Holy smokes!

My PYL wants me to write more, of course, and is so encouraging of my excitement, so I'm down for advice if anyone wants to reply here with it as well, but right now, I'm just super excited.
