New Milestones Thread

Ten years ago....yikes.

In one sense everything in it still holds up, but I've also gone out of my way to go against some of the things I discussed just to see what would happen.

I think the point is that ten years ago you had fewer years as a Literotica writer under your belt than 8Letters does now, and you felt no compunction at the time about offering your own wisdom and penning a "how to" on incest stories. It was an excellent idea and a helpful thing to do. It helped me. I don't know why you would get snarky about another author doing something similar. 8Letters has years of experience writing stories, studying the success of other authors' stories more systematically than just about anybody else here has, and blogging extensively about his writing. He obviously noodles over this stuff a lot. He's as well qualified as anyone to offer his own opinions. People are free to agree or disagree with them--I personally agree with some of his writing views and disagree with others--but there's no reason to demean the attempt.

A how to is published with an intent to help if anyone is interested and is there for anyone who wants it, if they want it at all. I also wrote it as part of the Survivor contest to get last minute points to qualify, which I did. What's it not is a forum post declaring I'm such an expert I can teach you. But that's the secondary annoyance I have for this topic.

The main one is something I'm sure your BFF EB would certainly agree with.

No one who steals from another author because they couldn't write their own lesbian scene should be teaching anything here to anyone. As was pointed out when it first happened, that would get you banned on a lot of sites. Obviously, this isn't one of them. But seeing many would agree that an author stealing from another author is as low as it can get, I don't think it should be forgotten, especially when that person is asking people to send them their stories to 'review and improve.' Why not send your CC number to a known scammer?

So I was checking on the status of my next queued story, and noticed that my recent story, Hard to Stay Quiet in the Library, had ticked up in it's ratings a bit since last week... 4.93 on 59 votes.

I was super happy about it, and then I thought... What do the top stories in the category have?

And after poking around a bit, I realized I had broken into the Top Ten Erotic Coupling stories of the last 30 days!!

(Edit: Woah, and #25 for the last 12 months!)

I know it's not much, I know ratings aren't everything, I know it's temporary, I might be jinxing it by even saying this... But dang it feels pretty good 😁

Congratulations. It's human to enjoy success like that. Just don't get too attached to the numbers. At 59 votes, a story is still vulnerable to big swings. Just a few low votes can send the score plummeting. You have to accept that's just the way it is. But even so, 4.93 is a VERY high score (I don't have any stories with scores that high), so enjoy it.

No stories with 4.93 stars on 59 votes are bad. I tend to capture a high ratio of red H releases in the early voting stages, but never to that level. Regardless of what might transpire in the coming days and weeks (as Simon cautioned), you’ve definitely struck a positive chord with your audience. I would encourage you to keep doing exactly what you’re doing. Congratulations!

So not a writing milestone, but rather a reading one. 1001 comments this year as of ten minutes ago:

(Actually, that is a bit of a writing milestones, given that probably amounts to around 30,000 words right there.)

Seems like as good a point as any to step back from both reading and using the forum. Sad, as there are a few series I'm following that I will miss out on the conclusions of. But using the forum is distracting me from writing, and reading on here is starting to impact on my work and family life.

Thanks everyone who has been friendly and welcoming. Best wishes for the future. x

Sad to see you go, but I understand completely. I've posted nearly 7000 comments on the forums in less than 18 months. It's fun, but it sucks your energy. Last year I took a week out from posting here, and instead wrote three stories.

Just know that there's a friendly welcome waiting for you if you ever decide to pop back in.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
