So my Scifi friends,

What do you think of the new BSG, if anything?

I wasn't too impressed with the miniseries, but missed the first episode of the series.

If i'm home tonight, I plan on watching it.

It's due to come on TV here in Australia next month, I vaguely remember the original TV series *showing my age here* Master's not really into sci fi so I may have to tape it and watch it when there's nothing else on

There was a mini series called The 4400 which was shown here last year and now I hear there's also a series of that coming on too......lol time to lash out and buy more blank videotapes

I thought the miniseries was ok. The first two epsisodes were pretty good too. I'm still not comfortable with Starbuck being a woman, but not enough to bring down the whole show. I think it has a chance to be a cool show, but I'll need to stop thinking about the original show when I watch it. Anyone else here old enough to have watched the original notice that a couple of the ships in the convoy are the same design as those in the original?

I couldn't agree more MasterJ -- my sentiments exactly! My Master's too.

And yes!!!! They are the same! :)

Just to toot my own horn. I get to sit at home watch SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and then the new Battlestar Galactica tonight. About a half-hour after Galactica, I get to out for drinks with a girl I've been wanting to ask out for a few months now. W00T! Three hours of sci-fi geek-goodness and then hot girl with me in a bar. Oh yeah, I'll also be futzing around with the miniatures from my Warhammer Fantasy Battle army. I'm in geek heaven. :D

Yeah especially after that little white number she was wearing in tonight's episode.

Damn, don't tell me that. I taped the first two shows, but didn't get Gallactica. Maybe next time she'll be wearing the same thing?

Actually, I'm an SG1 fan from way back. And, as far as the Gallactica show goes, the original was a little lame, if you ask me. The costumes were lacking in some areas. But, the technology of the times had a lot to do with some of that. I could look past that, as I did with Kirk's Star Trek.

Starbuck as a woman is different, but I can deal with it (does she smoke cigars?). As it always is for me, it will take some getting use to differnt people playing all of the roles. I don't like change.

But, the new Cylon chicks are pretty special. I like the way they have morphed into a humanistic look.

Yes the new Starbuck still smokes her cigars and gambles. However there's also the backstory that she was in love with Apollo's brother.

Just to tease DVS:

She spent a good chunk of a scene in the little white number with one strap fallen off her shoulder. YUM!

I got to see this weeks episode, the verdict is still out on if I like it or not. As for the blonde cylon, i'd take the new boomer over her anytime:p

I'm not too crazy about the new Col Tighe either.

Do any of you feel Richard Hatch (Original Capt. Apollo) sold out when he guest starred this week? He's been trying to revive the original series, bringing it up to date, with little to no results.

He has written three BSG books continuing the original series story line, and they were good imo.

hehehe, well despite the fact that I'm writing a sci-fi-ish type book (it's a bit different in many respects) but I never watch any science fiction shows. go figure

*grin* Cool..Which army for fantasy????

Oh yeah,,

I watched the show..Of course the special effects were a lot better.. As for the rest..I dunno..I think they have gone the correct route. It will take a lot more than a few episodes.
Though I will say that I think the new Adama is great ..Olmos is a wonderful choice.

Olmos is an awesome choice for Adama. He's going to be badass in a way that Lorne Greene never could be.

I have a Lizardman army. I'm also starting to piece together a High Elf army.

The first time I watched the miniseries I hated it. Having seen it again though, this time without worrying about how well it matched the original series, I must say I enjoyed it a helluva lot. I think that's going to be the secret to enjoying the series for me . . . treating it as an original story without reference to the original.

I don't play Warhammer Fantasy (not the wargame, anyway . . . though a buddy of mine runs a mean roleplaying game with the Warhammer rules), but I've got Dark Eldar, White Scars Space Marines, and Ghost Warrior Eldar armies for 40k . . .

*grin* Perhaps we should start a thread for game geeks???

I've sold three armies, two for 40k and one for fantasy (Skaven), done the Mordheim schtick, hmmm Sold a Battle Fleet Gothic fleet big enough that it was in a LARGE tool box..

Now all I need to find is someone to play Ogre Minatures with..

Oh and I rather like Starbuck as a girl...

Or do you just like the girl playing Starbuck? It works both ways for me . . . once I quit trying to compare the new series with the old . . .

Hmmm . . . come to think of it, I might like to see how many BDSMers are also gamer geeks . . . and from which side of the D/s coin they come . . . not that it would mean anything, but it would be . . . interesting, if useless, knowledge. Good idea, EKVITKAR

hehehe, I'm quite the gamer, I have some breath of fire 2 going right now, a game that's over half as old as I am :)

Last night's episode was pretty good. Olmos just radiated anger at Starbuck during their big scene. A friend of mine that was over using my laundry facilities started crying during that scene.

*grin* Better start the Geek thread soon...Just got pulled into a game of PARANOIA xp...
Hard to play..'cause you can't stop laughing long enough..

*grin* makes a good break for those of us that are tired of standard RPG's...

Tired of standard RPG's? then try some tactical RPGs, they're great, I love em, only problem is they're really rare. I highly reccomend final fantasy tactics, best game ever in my opinion :). These of course are video games, I dunno if you're talking about some other kind of rpg, or something, most of you are at least a generation above me so I dunno.
