New author wanting tips

If you haven't written before, the first thing I would suggest is to go back and read some of your favorite stories to learn the proper format and all that stuff.

Then before writting your own story, make sure it's a story which really excites you.

Okay, here are the first four paragraphs of your most recent story other than non-erotic ones. I excluded those because the discussion is about writing smut.

Dozens of lights twinkled from their perches. A fresh pine scent filled the air. Gaily wrapped presents crowded together to find a spot under the tree. People scurried through the stores to find those last elusive gifts. It was three days before Christmas, and Abby wished it was over.

The packages were empty, fake, like the tree with its air freshener stuffed in the center. A single card sat on the coffee table; a reminder of how few people remembered her. Abby hated the holidays.

She pulled the plug, pitching the room into darkness. Across the road, her neighbor’s Santa display illuminated their entire yard. Each hour the elves at his side gave out a squawky rendition of Christmas songs. Tuning them out didn’t work, and she sighed as a deep sadness filled her.

Life wasn’t supposed to be so hard, she thought for the millionth time. Where had she gone wrong to end up so alone? She remembered childhood dreams of a house filled with family and friends celebrating the holidays together. Laughter rang out from each room. Her husband stood at her side, beaming at her with love.

In these four short paragraphs, you used seven adverbs, besides some adverbial phrases which are in red. I'm not complaining about using adverbs; I'm all for the idea. I'm just pointing out that, despite your advice to the contrary, you use numerous adverbs too.

I try to avoid bickering, but I also try to give advice to new authors who ask for it. I also respond to others who express disagreement with me. I consider myself to be the king of smut on this site. :D

I haven't seen you try to avoid any arguments. Why not just address your comments in this thread to smart and sexy girl, who asked for advice.

If you answer this post, I'm not answering back.

Thanks for sticking up for me! I realize that everyone has different ideas about what makes a good story, but I honestly don't like the bickering. I just wanted opinions....and maybe some info about site navigation? Because this site is really hard to get around....and do I actually post on the forum boards or on literotica? Is there a difference?

Lit. has about twenty different forums, and this one is for asking advice on writing or passing on info or other writing issues. It is also a place to bicker over a variety of subjects and to display pics of grandchildren and to flirt and to warn about possible scams or to post interesting news items.

I'm sorry if I got a bit carried away earlier, but it really bothers me to see people making absolute pronouncements, especially when I consider them to be wrong. If you have a rough draft, you can email it to me as an attachment, and I can do a quick edit of it. :)

I don't like absolute pronouncements either, as in some ways its all relative, and yes....I will get something to you SOON....I just don't have it finished yet....and I'm one of THOSE perfectionists lol
