New author looking for an editor.

You're going to want to make sure your first character is eighteen, because she currently doesn't read as though she is. Lit rules state that all characters must be eighteen or over.

It is the standard Lit ploy. xquisitebliss does state that she has had her eighteenth birthday (first story, first para, last sentence), and that is the requirement satisfied. (S)he needs to do the same in the second, possibly by replacing "graduation" in the third paragraph.

Ok, writers can write whatever they wish that's why we have editors - to make the story LEGAL. I have edited MANY stories that contained characters who at the beginning of the story seemed as jailbait. As the story progressed readers found out the real age of the character. Some authors choose to depict a character as an adult who maybe has not physically matured properly and still looks in apprearance like a child. So before you rip this writer apart for something you think about a character that the writer may or may not have intended keep that in mind.

This forum was created to help writers develop their skills. I think with our current laws on underage content that this particular fact is known enough to everyone. I have noticed something, the original poster has not come back to comment - is what has been posted the reason? We should try to phrase or criticism carefully because writers are a touchy bunch. They are passionate about their work, as passionate as a mother with a child. Remember that.

Personal preferences are respected. It is the readers choice if they choose to read the material. That is why we have blurb's.

If the author needs assistance PLEASE contact me. I am HAPPY to help. Just see my signature and contact me on Yahoo I am always there (except when I'm sleeping).

Believe me, that does not stop some readers from reading a story in, say, Incest/Taboo with the blurb Mom seduces her son, then complaining bitterly that this kind of incest is disgusting and anyone who writes such stories should be executed forthwith, and will burn in hell for ever.

I am sorry but I thought I had posted a thank you for the concerns that you guys had brought up. I really do appreciate all of your thoughts.

As far as the age of the characters is concerned, I was trying to be vague but still make everyone 18. I was trying to let the reader 'discover' that they were all legal adults.

I will be sending you a PM shortly.

Are you this sanctimonious in real life?

Nobody has criticised on this thread -- people forget the rules about age stuff all the time, and then their stories are delayed.

As for people who like to write characters who look like children; I know I find nothing more erotic than that. Oh yeah. I certainly won't judge. Why, anybody would think that they actually had written a story about children and just changed the ages for Lit. But that never happens. No siree. Advertising your help to people in order to make these changes would not be distasteful at all.

We know the purpose of the forum, E.T., and to be honest, I'm developing a deeper appreciation for how Philip Seymour Hoffman felt just before Matt Damon conked him over the head in The Talented Mr. Ripley. What was Hoffman's line? Ah yes. "You're a quick study, aren't you? Last time you didn't know your ass from your elbow, now you're giving me directions."
