What type of tea do you prefer?

I like a particular brand of English Breakfast... and occasionally an Earl Grey...

If I’m being restrained, I’ll have a peppermint... jasmine occasionally and in Chinese restaurants, chamomile once in a blue moon, Cinnamon tea in Middle Eastern restaurants...

😜😆😆

You??

Restrained? Keep talking.....

Ah! Molonglo... good choices... I'd merely add in Assam - I love the depth and strength of it.

Lapsang Souchong... is what I have tasted many moons ago... and it didn't hit the spot at the time... but maybe I was doing it wrong?!
Or perhaps it's as a result of a (non-Aussie) childhood in a large garden, with a mother making lots of bonfires (lots of leaves from lots of trees) and getting caught in the smoke, whilst trying to retrieve the apples on sticks that we'd stuck into the fire... ??

But... if you were offering LS... and had been gracious enough to make me some, then I too would be gracious, thank you kindly, tilt my head in appreciation and accept with an anticipation of expanding my palate...

;)

While I’m sure many people do like LS, to me it tastes like someone burnt tea leaves on the BBQ, then made tea from them. Definitely not my cup of tea (literally!).

I can’t remember trying Assam, I shall try some.

Tea is definitely better experienced with a companion.

Do you drink tea at cafes?

While I like tea, it always seems “wrong” for me to pay several dollars for something I can make just as well at home (unless of course it is a specialty tea) so when out I usually buy coffee instead of tea.

Thank goodness... so i can dispense with being well behaved and socially acceptable - let's ditch the LS, and head for the Assam... (it can often be a component in English Breakfast blends, as it has a robust body to it... Darjeeling is probably the tasty option)...

(I type as if I have some knowledge - I'm merely an amateur! - and it has been some time...)

Agreed - tea and togetherness... with a tasty treat?...
a palate pleasing and amusingly alliterative - all in one wonderful event.

We should then perhaps consider extending to a tea dance... now that takes tea to the top...

And yes you are quite right... out in the real world (vague distant memories of such a thing), it was often better to take the complete alternative of coffee - or - shock horror, to take one's own teabags along...

Lapsang lover would make a great Lit name. English Breakfast all the way!

Yes it would make an excellent moniker - I wonder if it might even enjoy a slight twist, to enhance... But I'll leave that fiddling about to your greater capabilities!

And yes EB just hits the spot... ;)

Hi all,
I'm in Melbourne. Loving winter, not! Working from home and it's all good. I do get a bit bored so I've decided to visit Lot and see what everyone is up to.
Take care, stay safe and be naughty.

Dave

Welcome!!!
When it’s possible... pop up for tea!!!
I’m brewing up a storm of it, it seems!!!
;)

I'm a Yorkshire Tea kinda guy myself, but wouldn't begrudge an English Tea drinker. What about we take it up a notch though.. I have T2 in the cupboard. Clearly I'm sophisticated...

I'm a Perth guy

I'm a Sydney guy. 34.

Ah!! someone who likes it strong!!
Good... don't begrudge me anything please...

Oh!... T2 in the cupboard...? should we partake there too? how big is the cupboard... we might have to take turns if everyone is turning up for afternoon tea...

And yes - apparently so, but well hidden behind the Yorkshire Tea! Does the sophistication extend to other palates? ;)

For those who have milk with their tea, do you put the milk in before the water or after the water?

Hello you!!! :)

As a child, milk first.

Now, tea first then milk....

I like to check the strength of the tea first, and ensure that it will satisfy... nothing worse than too weak... and it ensures that I can gauge the depth to which that tea should be poured...
before I allow the softness and coolness of the milk to complement the final event...

But, I must also admit, the quality of my porcelain china cup is now better - and so it holds the heat and the challenge of that first pour far better than lesser quality crockery... one could say that the porcelain actively embraces and maintains the heat better... it also allows the tea to taste far better....

;)

I'm also keen to hear the opinions and proclivities of others.... do tell, everyone!

I add the milk after the water too.

I don’t like water that has been boiled then boiled again. I find it tastes flat.

oh yes! very true... freshly drawn water freshly boiled, and all that.... though I am not above slumming it and taking what I can get....:D
As with most things in life, it depends on what and where and why etc!!!

But one must insist on boiling water... less than that is nowhere near hot enough to do the job properly...

;)

What is the worst tea you have had.

I was at a convention once which had two large urns. One of coffee and one of tea.

No one could tell which was which.

OH MY GOD>>> that would be utterly dreadful...

well I've worked in the corporate world for long enough to know that there are many and varied ways in which one can treat tea such that waterboarding would be kind...

(with all due apologies and respect)

Always got to go tea first then milk!!

Although could be worse I know a guy who has milk with his green tea

Morning Molonglo,

It's freezing! I am working from home, so can stay warm till I slip out for yoga and a walk.

Yep, it's going to be a stunning Canberra winters day.

Enjoy.

I hope you enjoy it too.

Winter is lovely in Canberra. Well it’s much better than the part of Victoria I grew up in.
Winter is beautiful in Canberra on days like today, other days, not so much!

Have a great weekend, hope its fun filled
