I am not new to sexual websites but I am new to BDSM. The thought of controlling and pleasing someone turns me on. I was wondering how you find people that are interested in being into real life d/s (not internet, I feel that you can;t assert your control).

Metropolitan areas generally have plenty of interest groups, meet ups and BDSM clubs. Do some searching, and see what you can find close enough to you.

The internet is fantastic for exposure, discussion and meeting new people once you've found a solid footing, but I think you're right to focus on RL interactions. The great news is that the BDSM community has a long history of mentoring newer members, so you're likely to find that people are incredibly generous with their time and knowledge if you have an open mind and positive attitude. If you find a certain interest, talk to folks to see who knows their stuff in that realm, then ask those people you're referred to if they'd be willing to share some of their knowledge so you can be a better, safer player. If you see something new or interesting, ask the person about it out-of-scene.
