We got stopped one night.

Cabbie's fault really, they never turned up.

They could see we weren't chavs, and looked a bit out of place
in a city centre.

They made me turn out my pockets.

Found an old note from a girlfriend.

"Oh, she had a lovebite on her neck, did she?"

That was a bit embarrassing, but at least caused a laugh.

Once they could see nothing strange was up, they flagged us a cab.

We may never have got home that night if it wasn't for those cops.

Good topic.

Back in the day I was a young and cocky, good looking, free wheeling sort of guy out to "conquer the world" and strut my stuff. All my money from odd jobs and a part timer that went back and forth to full time went to my hot rod car, girls, and whatever "cool' clothes I could afford. I got into it with cops for doing stupid stuff in that car and partying. But I ALWAYS made it a point to be kind unto others and those in authority once I realized I did something stupid that got me in trouble. I seen myself as some sort of James Dean.

Anytime the police pulled me over, I became humble and respectful. Acknowledged whatever I did wrong, using the typical "Yes sir/no sir" and "officer" that goes along with it. Always willing to accept whatever punishment was due to me. It use to baffle people how often I got out of trouble with the cops or could converse with them w/out fear or intimidation. Most times they let you go if they think you'll make the effort to stay out of trouble.

No matter how someone sees it, most officers don't see it they same way as we do. It's their job to keep the peace. I respect their position and the uniform. Just be nice. If you want to contest them, then do so in court. Not every situation is the same nor is every cop a good/bad cop.

I must agree.

I'm sure they have their own problems,
I'm never rude.

Sometimes, I can't help but think
the embarrassment is worse than
the punishment.

Well I know that.

I find it's just a better policy to be polite.

I grew up with police as neighbours.
