Has anybody tried this? If you did, how did you like it? Good selection? Fast delivery? What did you think of the price of the service? Any other thoughts on it?

I'm thinking about giving it a try, but wanted to hear about other people's experiences with it. The closest video store to me doesn't have a very good selection of DVDs, and I wonder if this is worth it. The mail here is not especially fast, so that might be a detriment. Thanks.

Reel.com delivers faster (in my area anyway) and has a great selection of movies. Netflix is also good.

Thanks LadyDarkFire. Their site is confusing, though. Is it just for research purposes, or do they mail the movies to you? I don't live in the states, you see. That's why I'm asking. And I don't want to commit to a service without trying to find out more about it.

I didn't think Reel.com did rentals.

We sign up every couple of months.

I will say that if you watch movies within a day or so of getting them, you more than get your $20/month worth.

If you are the type of person who is going to sit on the DVD for a week or two, it gets a little expensive. When the service first started, they'd ship when you told them that you'd dropped a DVD in the mail - I guess they got burned because they don't do that anymore.

I will offer one word of warning...New Releases are hard to get the first three weeks or so after they come out unless they are at the top of your queue, so you'd better have a full queue of alternates or you won't get your money's worth.

Also, there is still not nearly as much on DVD yet, so sometimes you are a little hard pressed to fill your queue.

I have been on Netflix for months......it's great. The secret is to turn the movies around fast. The longer you hold on to them the less you get in a month and the less worthwhile it is finacially.....

Positive - I'd say the movies reach me 3-4 days after they ship 85-90% of the time. The selection is better than almost any store you'll walk into, and they are very cool about lost tapes - oh and their customer service has been good to me...

Negative - the searchability of their library is lacking. for example if you type in "batman" you won't get everythig they have relating to batman, infact you'll get about half of it. Also one DVD is one rental. If you want to get a DVD set with extra discs you can order them separately but you may get them far apart....
(ie you may get the extras disc before you get the movie, and that sucks. not to mention if you want lawrence of arabia that is your three disc alotment right there.....)

I just read your last post......I'm not sure they will mail internationally.....
Hope ths helped, GOOD LUCK!

That's my trump card. I may live in Germany, but I have a technically stateside mailing address. Weird, but one of the perks of being here. No sales tax, either.

Yeah, like every body else I want the new releases, but I was browsing and saw so much else of interest. Classics, documentaries, biographies, etc. There's a lot there to interest us.

Thank you so much for the information. Anybody else?
